This will be an on going discussion in photographing the moon. Full Moons, Half Moons, New Moons, Man on the Moon, and some cheese. Whatever you have, post it here.
In November, Linda, Weber, and Seda (my inspiration) and others, posted pictures and tutorials about techniques to photographing the moon. I've added those below.
And from Donna and Quincy, she left this wonderful video for us all to enjoy and be inspired by. Thanks so much, Donna.
To get you started here are the instructions:

Here is another good article. http://www.tzplanet.com/words/how-to-photograph-the-moon/50
Linda found this very cool link
The moon exposure calculator is a tool for photographers feeling like taking pictures of the moon, it will give you the estimated shutter speed required based on your ISO, aperture, moon location, weather condition and moon phase.

Start at 200 and go up little bits at a time. Four hundred sounds like too much. I can't imagine why the flash would be an issue if you are depressing the shutter half way to focus the light should be enough that the flash wouldn't pop up. Hmmm. Which Nikon?
As you may know, each month's full moon has a name. This month's name is The COLD MOON--well no kidding!!!! A few of us can attest to that!
Here are the names of the rest:
RJ, thanks for the link. I love the stories behind the names for the full moons. DH & I have been kicking around kennel names... we both like Flower Moon. :)
I liked those too, Nina. I think I'll skip or rename the Worm Moon. I think March's moon is deserving of another name
Interesting that we have different views. Linda and mine are similar, where Carol's in NH is different. Possibly the Longitude has something to do with this. Makes me wonder what Moon Nancie would get out there in CA, as you mentioned last night?
Without minutes and seconds--simplified
Ohio: Longitude: 79°
N.C.: Longitude: 80
N.H.: Longitude: 71
Oh Wait! Did I mention that I had my camera at a really whacked out angle on the tripod.....trying to shoot over the trees!!! That's why the angle is different.....if you look...all of our pics are showing the same pattern of markings. OOPPS!
Nice Joanne.....Tomorrow I'll wait til after dark....I'm too chicken to go out there when DH isn't around.....Lions And Tigers And Bears oh my!
Joanne, that is your best shot!!!! Looks great! Obviously ISO 400 is not too much.
Wow!!!!
Joanne,
Here is the explanation of crop factor: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crop_factor
Read it. Please tell me there is not a test after that! LOL. I understand, just don't ask me to explain it. I might moon ya.
