Last week, the A frame was introduced to us.  They lower the A frame, so that dogs can practice going up and down. Charlie was able to climb up and go down with no problem. Today, I used the school to practice. She got a good handle on this, but there is one problem. When she starts to climb up, she jumps on it after the first color section. Meaning that, she is not contacting the beginning color / bottom half color of the "going up" side, jumping right onto the middle of the "hill".

Coming back down is fine, she contacts all the way down to the very bottom.

Is this considerd a penalty? If so, how do I remedy this?

That make good sense!! Thank you for the idea. I was concerned not only for the penalty reason, but also for the safety... Right now, the A frame is low, but once it gets high and if Charlie tries to jump right on it, I thought she might slide down or rip her nails, or something.....
Yeah. This is her very first Agility Calss, but she just loves it. I am trying to teacher more of impulse control....
