Gracie and I had class 1 today, beginning agility. It was fun and Gracie was the star of the class. All the other dogs were scared of some part of it, not Gracie. She flew up and over the A frame, I had to slow her down to make sure she made the contacts. She was the only dog in the class that would jump on the table, and sit or down with no hesitation, she stayed there as well. She may be a natural...Also, even better, she has been tired all afternoon and has been peacefully napping. Can't wait to build some things for us to practice on when our rain goes away.

Hi Tammy,
I'm so glad you had a great time at class. Way to go Gracie!!

I think it is a Gracie thing. I have a Gracie who is an F1 Goldendoodle and we just graduated from our Agility class. Gracie Doodle also was the star of the show from day one. Firstly, all the other dogs had "issues" with people, other dogs and the equipment. There was barking, leash pulling, shying away and refusal. My Gracie is very well socialized and did everything perfectly from day one...though the weaves which were introduced last were a bit difficult only because her "fuselage" is so long that she is woven around three poles at the same time! lol Gracie did exactly as your Gracie did...perfect tables, A-frame and the tunnels...OMG...Gracie LOVES the tunnels! I now have a 19 ft. tunnel, jumps and the ring for her in my backyard. I am working on my husband to build a beam and A-frame. We are just doing this for fun though and are not planning on taking it any further like competing. Gracie's friends come up on the weekends and we do agility training with them. Tons of doggie fun!!!

OMG What great photos! It makes me excited to start this! We too, are not interested in competition, just want another way to have fun together. Yeah, it's the Gracie thing I'm sure... We have not done tunnels yet, that may be a little scary since Grace is a little fraidy cat!
When do you think is a good time to enroll a puppy in agility class?
Age wise and other training completion wise....

Charlie is almost 6 month, finished puppy K and is now in basic I obedience.
Should she finish intermediate obidience before enrolling in agility?
I am no expert, it was our first class in agility but I think you can start anytime after 6 months. I would say your dog needs to have an active kind of personality. The only requirement of the class we took was basic obedience like sit, down, come and stay. Almost everything in this beginning class was on lead. It's really easy. Just make sure you have your vets ok, especially if yours is a std size ( hip growth issues). Also, make sure you have a teacher that knows puppy issues, you would use very low jumps for a dog that young. It's great fun for human and canine. I immediately bought much pvc from the local home improvement store and became an agility equipment assembler!!! We are in advanced obedience now, but will probably go for advanced agility after this class is over....
I just looked at Charlie's trainer's website. It looks like she has a class starting in August, so that may be a good timing.
I should ask her about it to see what she thinks of that.
Also thank you for mentioning about the hip. She is a standard size, so I should talk to her vet as well. Charlie is going to see him on Wednesday ( She is getting her stitches taken out from her spay) so we can ask him then.
