I boarded Jellybean over the weekend at the vet and asked for her to be bathed before I picked her up yesterday. First I got a phone call saying that she needed her butt shaved because she is matted there. Or I could pay extra to have her brushed out there. I opted for brushing. The next phone call was later in the day saying she needed to be shaved down, although her coat on the sides is not matted at all. She has matting down at the skin on her butt and back of her legs. I said no and told the groomer I would sleep on it. Came home and found another groomer in the area who is highly recommended for doodles. Will go there tomorrow and she will do a look see. she is definetly going through a coat change, with a lot of her fur coming off in the brush when we brush her. Not sure whether to just take the coat down or try for a shorter version of what she already has.....she is nine months old and hasn't had a haircut so you know she has that shaggy puppy look! Love it, but maybe this is inevitable? Any suggestions or thoughts on the coat changes....right now her coat is long, wavy and wooly. Looks like it is coming in curlier on her back down the spine.

Let the groomer o a look see. Maybe she can take her down a little to avoid the matting. You may just want to get the puppy fuzz off which will help. They go through so many coat changes. Lucca was pretty consistent but Izzy, at 8 months is finally getting hair!! Let us see the finished do!!!!
Jellybean must have a curlier coat than Owen. Owen has different fur/hair every five inches of his body! It is wavier than a golden except on his tummy where it is stick straight. Kona is curly so he mats. So far Owen doesn't mat. He just has silly hair.
I like that term...Silly hair...that's Miz Izzy!!
Django is also a member of the silly hair group!
I brought her to the groomer. She took one look and said the dog was one of the best brushed she has ever seen and didn't need a cut whatsoever. She showed me the purple les pooches brush and immediately brushed out the couple of small matts that she could find. Since it was jellys first real grooming, I let her even out her coat around her sides and trim away from her eyes. She is a giant fluff ball. I was fully prepared for a shave down! I was also in shock at the attitude of the groomer at our vets office, but will vote with my checkbook and bring jelly back to this new groomer only. If I can figure out how to post a pic I will :) By the way, I ordered a les pooches brush for her and also some cowboy magic off the Internet at the groomers suggestion. She recommended both for doodle coats.
Can you post a photo of Jelly since her grooming? I would love to see her.
Bonnie, I will put up a pic of her today after I find my missing! camera charger. How do these things just disappear???? My camera battery is dead :(
I have been lazy and have not brushed Mochi for almost two months! Had to do it last night because he was all matted so badly especially where the hair is curlier. I used the green one and brushed out ALL the matts. It was amazing!
I just wished I got the large size one instead of the tiny little one. I might get a large purple one for Mochi and just use the green small one on Latte.
Glad you took Jellybean to another groomer and saved her butt! Whew
Thanks for the story!
Yay for you, yay for Jellybean. I am so glad you got a 2nd opinion. I need to get another brush. The Les Pooches green brush I have actually broke. Looking forward to seeing photos. It's pretty easy to download them.
Your Les Pooches brush broke? I wonder if you can return it and get another. They are so expensive! I don't know what I would do without mine for Kona.
I never thought of asking to replace it. I have the green one and the rubber came apart from where it attaches to the handle. Gorilla tape works great!!!! I want to look at the purple one too.

I love the purple brush. It works like magic! I don't know what makes these brushes different than the rest, but they are just fabulous. I also use the Cowboy Magic detangler and shine, just the tiniest bit, and even on her dry coat, it really helps with brushing her out.
