I picked up Butters last weekend and we still have three weeks to go before she gets her second set of puppy shots. I know it's important to socialize her as much as possible during this time but we can't go anywhere until she is done with her shots. Anyone have a new puppy or want to play with my new puppy? I live in San Carlos so if you are close by, I would love for you to bring your puppy/dog over or I can come to you! Only requirement is that all your dogs are current on their vaccinations. Let me know!! Butters would loveeee to meet you! Thanks!

Hi, Congratulations on your new puppy!

Check out your local dog trainers for puppy socialization classes.  We found one in our area where puppies under 16 weeks (before last parvo shot) could play together in the training area.  The owner required that we had a health record from our vet before she would accept us.  Her training area was indoors and she was fastidious about bleach and cleanliness.

We tried to introduce Alma to everything we could when she was a puppy... men with hats, vacuum cleaners, door bells, car rides, sprinklers...  Our trainer even had a list.  It worked for the most part - except she is convinced that the sweep in our pool is alive and she barks when it sprays out of the pool.

Good luck and keep us posted,

Diane and Alma

Thanks Diane!! I'll check it out! I am bringing her everywhere with me but not letting her touch the floor so that's working out. I am also looking for littermates! Butters is from Willow/Casey litter born on 4/12/2013.

My Dutch is from this litter.  He was the largest of the boys and the curliest.  Your Butters is just darling.  We are in Fresno so the trainers I use would do you no good.  Is Butters really active?  Dutch was the alpha dog and he is really a hand full but we love him so much.  He just had his surgery W/the CONE and he is not too happy about it.  Well good luck with your little one.....Jan Mayes

Hi Jan!! Butters was medium size and the lightest of the litter. Butters is pretty active but I take her to doggie daycare every day so by the time she gets home, she is nice and tired. She was 'supposed' to be the mellow one but I am hoping that would kick in when she is older. All in all, she is a really great dog. Butters got spayed a few weeks ago. She was really drugged up the first day but the next day, she was back to normal. I put a onesie on her and she liked that way better than the cone.

Our Dutch tolerates the cone but he only has it on for two more days, YAH!!  He starts obedience class on the 24th so we will see how he gets along.  We want him to train to be a therapy dog for the hospitals and schools.  He is so high strung though we'll have to see.  Does your Butters love people/children?  Dutch just can't get enough of people interaction. Well have a good week.  Jan M

Butters is going to puppy class right now!! She loves people/children and other dogs. A little too much because she is so darn excited when she sees them. I have to teach her how to calm down. The only thing she doesn't like much is places with a lot of people. We were downtown eating dinner once and some kids passed by on their skateboards. It scared the bejesus out of her and she peed on herself. Ever since that incident, she is very cautious when we are in a high traffic area.
