Hi Folks,

I wanted to ask question regarding puppy bathing protocol, as you know we picked our puppy couple of weeks back. He has a fleece coat and Julie had given the puppies a bath day before we picked them up. I forgot to ask Julie the question but wanted to check with you all who have picked puppies previously.

1. What is the puppy bathing protocol? Our vet said every 2 weeks, does it seem right?

2. For bathing, do we just rinse our puppy with water only and maybe use shampoo every 4-6 weeks? Can we rinse him with water more frequently but dry out completely with a dryer. Especially when its really hot weather.

So far we are combing him daily and using Paul Michell's wipes to wipe our puppy every day in the evening.

Thanks,

Raj

Raj, Teddy is adorable. My pups from ABD are now 4 and 6 years old. We absolutely love them to pieces.

IMO there really is no protocol for bathing. Go by your gut instinct and bathe when you feel he needs it. I seem to bathe ours every 3 weeks or so. They play hard and get pretty dirty and stinky:) Not necessary to blow dry all the time. Let him dry naturally, especially in warm weather. I only blow dry in the winter months. As a pup he may "dirty" himself with urine or poop. Make sure you use a mild gentle pet shampoo and make sure it's tear free. Combing daily is great so he will get used to it.

Sounds like you are doing wonderful!!! Relax and enjoy your furry bundle of joy!!!! They are truly a blessing.

Thanks Carla,
Luca and Izzy are very cute and look like great family dogs.

Teddy is a lot of fun, this is our first dog and each day I am amazed at their intelligence, family friendliness. Teddy has brought a lot of happiness to our family. I just wanted to make sure that we do the right thing w.r.t. Bathing. I though maybe we can just give him a good rinse without using shampoo just to help him cool off to deal with summer heat. We brush him daily using the metal comb, we also started using the green activnet brush. It's interesting to see him get used to brushing and now he enjoys it. I do like the pet wipes from Paul Mitchell, our hair salon owner has dogs and they recommended it, it freshens Teddy after the end of the day.

He is also getting used to leash walking, initially it was a pain to put on a leash for first few days.

We also got him on 10:30pm to 6am sleep schedule, which is more reasonable!!

Reminder:  Brush coat out BEFORE you bathe and don't rub the coat too hard or you will have a matted mess.  Rinsing with water is okay.  If they get muddy, you will be surprised to see how much falls off if you let it dry.
