Floyd was just freed from the cone yesterday after his 10 day neutering recovery. That was a tough 10 days. No playtime with other dogs was killing us all but he made it through like a trooper and is in much better spirits. He is back to playing and looking good!
One thing, Floyd has peed inside twice now and I'm wondering if this is connected to the neutering. He has been telling us when he needs to potty this whole time and has shown no signs of incontinence but about 3 nights ago he just full on peed in the hallway and then again last night. Has anyone else had an issue like this after a neutering? Could this be developmental/pack order challenge thing??
Hi Karina,
I would suggest that you call the vet right away. Some dogs develop UTIs (urinary tract infections) after neutering that can cause require a round of antibiotics. A hormonal imbalance can cause incontinence, too. Keep us posted! :)
I agree with Linda. Doesn't hurt to get Floyd checked out. Glad to hear he did well though. Those 10 days are trying.
I've heard females take longer to heal. I keep wondering how I am going to keep Izzy quiet for 2 weeks. Her and Lucca NEVER stop wrestling!!!!!
I might consider it. Cute little Izzy is a little SD (Sh-- Disturber) and a handful...when awake:) Her and Lucca go at it (playing) her entire wakeful time. I should have named her Jumping Bean. She's sweet when she's sleeping:-)
I've had 3 males that were neutered and I don't recall any incontinence issues but there apparently is a syndrome of post-neuter urinary incontinence. Calling the vet seems very reasonable.
Yeah, I plan on calling the vet tomorrow. It feels so out of the blue. Right after the surgery and the days after he was fine and always told us when he needed to go potty and now in the past 3 days he's peeing inside. I hope he doesn't have an infection, he's been through enough the last couple of months and frankly so have we! I'll keep you posted!
Sidenote: As for Floyd's allergies they are up and down. We started him on Dr. Harvey's Canine Health dehydrated food which we are happy with and Floyd loves more than any other food we have ever tried. It's semi-homemade where you choose your own protein and oil (olive, flax, fish) and add it to the hydrated food. His itching has seemed to calm down significantly with antihistamines. We are rotating his protein to see if he has a reaction with any of them. Again, I'll keep you posted! Thanks for all the advice and suggestions!
Mochi didn't have this issue after neutering. I hope Floyd is just being confused again and nothing serious need to be concerned.
Glad to hear Floyd's itching has calmed down! Mochi chews his paws sometimes, but I think he's okay since he doesn't do it all the time. I'm very careful choosing Mochi's food and treats.
