Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I just wanted to make a comment to all that I get such a kick out of taking my red mini-doodle out into the world. People stop us on the street or wherever to comment on her and ask us what she is. My other doodle, who is cream-colored and very cute doesn't get the same attention Mattie does! We have found a new dog park and when we go there, we usually meet people we haven't seen before. I feel like a "broken record" answering everyone's questions about what she is, what her parents were, etc, etc. They just love her!

Here you go...are the heads turning yet?? ha ha

Turning for sure! Those grandsons of yours are just PERFECT!!!! Banjo would have a ball with these guys!

Haha! So true! Mattie is gorgeous so you can't blame them. I love that picture very pretty.

I agree.... people always stop and comment on my girls as well as those who smile and point while driving by....Oh my goodness!!! I hope they're pointing and smiling at the girls...lol.  I'd better check my teeth next time.
Soooooooooo. As a Doodle Mom-to-be. Want more opinions on the little red girl in my profile pic. Any chance of her staying red? What about her coat? It is straight at one day old in the pic. I want all the opinions I can get before I have to make a permanent decision in 4-5 weeks. Thanks :)
Well, one day old is WAY to early to tell--their colors do change, but she is awfully red and that is a good sign. The hair seems to stay straight when they are very little because momma dog is slicking it back with her tongue! When I bathed the pups in my dog's last litter at the age of 7 weeks, their hair popped up into all these nice little waves that weren't there before. If, when they are very young, there is a little ruffle along the spine where the hairs have a bit of a wave, my breeder says that that can mean a fleece coat--wavy and soft.
Thanks for the post Ginny. I guess I will wait to see her coat in the upcoming weeks. So, if anything goldendoodles tend to lighten? Do many stay shades of what they were @ birth? I see some light waves in some of the puppies in the pic, but none are evident on the red gal. Can't wait to see the next photos...
I would say that most lighten but it is really hard to predict. I have a puppy that was totally black and white when he was born and all the white areas are now mottled grey with lots of black mixed in. He has almost no pure white areas left. Some doodles have dark tips on the ends of their puppy coat that all gradually disappear as they are clipped. My Mattie (the red one in the first picture) had blonde ends on all of her hair that looked like she had been "frosted" but they all were gone by one year of age, so she actually got darker.
You know Ginny, unless the breeder tells me the red girl is very feisty or nippy....I think she will be the one for us. I am eager to see her closer up pics with eyes open etc...Hopefully the breeder will be posting in a week or so. Every time I look at the photo, I just fall in love with her :)

Did you meet the puppy yet? What about its parents? I highly reccomend visiting the pupply and its parents to make sure it is a good fit. Seeing the parents will help you see how your puppy will turn out... happy-go-lucky, hyper, laid back, nippy, ect. Seeing the coloring of the parents helps too. I have a F1 standard goldendoodle, Pluto (9.5 months) has golden retriever for his mom and his dad is a red standard poodle. I got to meet the parents of Pluto and I really feel like that was beneficial for me as an owner.

I have this experience also with Ember!  Her color is very unique in my neighborhood and it is a rare person who can resist coming up to give her snuggles and comment on her cuteness. Of course, Ember now knows this and acts insulted when someone does walk by without giving her some love! ;)
