I am wondering if anyone has had their ALD genetically tested to find out what mix of breeds are present in their dood?  I am considering having Tara testing more for the fun of it than anything else :).

Just wondering if anyone else has tried it?

Now you can understand my concern about the coat!!!

We were able to pick up a test for less than the asking price on the Wisdom Insights web site on eBay. You can get them around $30.00 to $40.00 there if you decide to try it some day. But like I said the accuracy is in question. Maybe sometime down the road it will improve.
OMD! He is beautiful but I don't think I would want to deal with that hair either. Looks like dreadlocks to me.
This is considered a corded coat. Many show poodles are groomed to corded coats as well. If kept short a Puli would be wooly coated.
Here is a couple pictures of corded poodles...

The white poodle is Beautiful! And yes, this is Spuds coat!
I think I need to learn how to deal with, create, and maintain a corded coat if I ever want to have SpudPuliDooley coat longer than 1/4 inch. Thanks for this informative discussion. It might be great to collect results somewhere on DK of the dogs who have been tested.
Tara's former groomer had a white standard poodle that had cords or as we called them dreadlocks. He looked really cool and she even put beads in his coat at times around his head!! How do you think Spud would feel about THAT??? It's kind of the Bob Marley look. He could start a new trend for doodles.
If you read the small print on a lot of these breed genetics kits they will tell you if they don't find a match for your dog in their database they reserve the right to make a best guess. We had a foster done whose results came back 75% poodle and 25% boxer. There was no way there was boxer in the dood. Looking closer at the breed genomes this particular company had they didn't include Wheaton Terriers, Australian Shepards, Giant Schnauzers and a few other larger breeds found in doodle hybrids.

If you want to do breed genetics testing make sure the company you use has a large database of breed genomes. Otherwise you may be wasting your money.
We went with the Wisdom Panel Insights test because the have 170 breeds in their database. Which was more than any other "kit" type test that I found but still quite limited if you consider all the dog breeds worldwide. I think the tests are more of a novelty than anything else.
What??? I am just finding out that Tara is an imposter...LOL! How did I miss this discussion? This is interesting and I will pass it along to a friend who is not sure she got a Labradoodle. I am going to tell her what you said...save your money!

Well, Laurie it was actually worth it for entertainment purposes!!  But I am told that the testing is more accurate when there are fewer generations of "mixing" involved.  Tara, being a multigen has many generations of "mixing" and I don't think these over the counter dna tests are sophisticated enough to handle it. If your friend's Labradoodle is a first or second cross the odds would be greater of getting accurate results.

BTW Adina is going to be changing the name of the web site to Pulidoodle Kisses!! LOL!

What a cute Pulidoodle you have! I never even considered doing DNA on Ned because I 'know' what he is = but then, maybe he is a Pulidoodle too. I have been considering doing this on Clancy my rescue, but I am not sure I really want to know what the test says.
What if he isn't a doodle at all according to the tests? Will I love him any less? Would I have to tell the people who stop us on the street that he isn't a doodle when they stop us and LOVE him? Will it tell me what fur is being shed all over my house? Just kidding.... Seriously, I don't know if it is more fun just to speculate Clancy's 'parts.'
