Is shaving the coat down in summer really necessary?

How many owners of ALD will cut the coat down for the summer? I love Chip's coat at his length right now, but am concerned about the heat. I see many of the labradoodles in Australia keep their long length, and it must be very warm there. Do you think they are uncomfortable? I've always been confused about this.

You would only need to do this if your dog is not double coated as the double coat and guard hairs reflect the sun's UV rays.

I personally do it because my dogs are in and out of the pool all the time and truthfully, it's easier for me. I don't have the amount of time it would require to brush and comb 8 dogs in and out of the pool.

I have found when my dogs are kept in full coat in the summer they do tend to have their spurts of energy in the morning or evening, but tend to be happier all the time when they are cut shorter. Just my observation though.
