Hi just interested to know if anyone else with a black dood has experienced a change of colour? Bonnie was jet black at 12 weeks and now at 9 months is changing the colour on her back to a lovely chocolate brown. She has patches on her legs too and also has some white hairs on her back. Don't mind at all as adds to her personality but wondered if it is common and whether she will continue to change as she gets older?
What color were Lucy's parents? Lacie started out jet black and is now starting to get some grayish sliver on her legs and on the top of her head, along with a light chocolate beard and sprinklings of bright white hairs in her face. Her momma is a chocolate lab and daddy is a white toy poodle.
My Mazie is practically a chameleon! Her Mom is a pale gold retriever and her Dad is a chocolate brown standard poodle. She appeared jet black as a 9-week-old pup, but almost immediately we began to notice that in a certain light, there appeared to be some brown on her back and on her legs. As she grew, we continued to notice this pattern - black with a sort of brown highlight effect, especially on her legs. Then she began to sprout white hairs, not in clumps, but randomly scattered throughout her fur. Of course we think she's gorgeous no matter what, but it has been interesting to watch as she changes. She's 18 months old now, the white hairs are more apparent, and I have to wonder if she's going to end up salt-and-pepper gray long before she's old enough to have earned that coloring with age. Gotta go, she's giving me that charming "get off the computer and play with me" look.
Yes see what you mean and she looks absolutely gorgeous! I bet you get a lot of nice comments about her when you are out walking. Bonnies mum was black and dad was brown so I suppose she is just taking a bit of colour from each of them. I took some photos of her this afternoon in the sun so will post them later. Will be interested to see if there are any other Black Doods changing colour!
Jacoby is doing the same thing - I call his color dark mink!! His mother was chocolate and father is creamy white. The mink color is most apparent on his legs and muzzle.
Dilylah appears to be changing as well. We are now referring to her colour as Espresso. She also has a alot of white hair around her eyes now as well. It will be interesting to see what colour or colours are underneath her wool once she gets a hair cut. We hope to go another 3 months before that happens. Her wool is very straight and doesnt matte at all.
Tucker was all black, now he looks like he has a lot of dark reddish brown in his fur. I really like it. His mother has some brown on her face and his father is a brown parti factored AKC standard Poodle.
I think so...our doodle is you look closesly at his nose he has loads of gold coloured hairs on it! cant wait to see him when he is bigger!! only about 7 months old atm. Jenn!!!
My black doodle is going gray prematurely... just like my husband, haha. Rocky has white hairs all over his back now, but it's hard to show in a photo. He's still very black!
Our puppy was jet black, but now his tail has a little gray and his beard looks a little red....his father, the poodle, was silver gray with black highlights.....
My six year old black female has had a "coca cola" colored beard for years. And, her fur is sprinkled with little white hairs which are not white from one end to the other. Instead, they are white, then black, then white- like plaid. Quite fun to pluck and start a discussion about how special they seem. She has a tiny white tuft on her chest. She is multi-generational from Rutland Manor. Her mother was cream, and I think she was the only black puppy in her litter. No matter what, she is a love, and extremely mischievously feminine.
