brown and white mixed with black coat?

I didn't know our black labradoodle would end up with brown highlights around her mouth. In looking at pics in this group, I guess it's not that uncommon. Sara also has white hairs scattered throughout her coat. Is that common too?

Her mom was a chocolate lab and dad was a white poodle. Black must be the dominant gene, but the brown and white are showing up because of mom and dad?

Sara is only 9 mos. old. How else is her coat likely to change?

Whatever the coloring, Sara is a whole lot of cute! I've had Callie for a year, and have no idea on her parents (she's a rescue). She's probably around 3 and her coat is changing all the time!

When we picked this breed, I hadn't seen an adult labradoodle in person before. We simply went by books and a compromise between a lab and a dog that might shed less. Sara is the perfect dog for us and has a wonderful personality. Her "flat coat" makes her look different from other Labradoodles we've come across at the dog parks, but I love the shaggy look. :)

Gus has a flat coat as well...Before we got him, I thought that all doodles had a shaggy/curly coat. We have his hair cut short for the summer, but when it grows in it is a little shaggy but not curly.

I've seen that quite often. We call the different color hairs that poke through the "weeds" haha
I have a black doodle and she has white hairs coming out, then brown around the muzzle.
Our white goldendoodle who came from a shelter has apricote weeds poking out through her coat. They all are so different. It's like a mood ring, wait and see! haha

It is actually LESS common to find a black doodle that is SOLID black. Our late Thule had lots of white speckles all over her face along with the reddish brown highlighted beard.

Sara is cute..
Molly's face is the same. My Chocolate labradoodle is also lighter around her mouth. I don't know if this is true, I was told their saliva causes this. They both also have a few white hairs.

She looks just like Lilac. Lilac is wispy and had other coloring mixed in her coat. Her mom was a chocolate lab and her dad was a very small buff poodle. Yours is really cute!

Matilda was jet black when we got her and then when she lost her puppy coat it started to change. She has auburn on her ears, private areas, and mouth. She has a white stripe on each ear so we call her the bride of frankenstein. One of the reasons Doodles are not recognized breeds is because there is no standard. All colours, 3 different types of coats.
