Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I know it shouldn't matter because a Doodle is a Doodle..but I think Bo may be a labradoodle and not an f1b goldendoodle like the breeder told us. The more pics of I see of the goldendoodles, I notice that Bo doesn't resemble any of them. It seems the goldendoodle has bigger legs and the labradoodle has skinny like legs...Bo has skinny legs. We took him to dog training class for the first time last week and the trainer thought for sure he was a labradoodle. She's been training dogs for over 30 years. Bo's vet told us that his temperment was more like a labradoodle's. So I'm wondering...to see my point, take a moment and visit 'Jonathan Cleaton' page and look at his doodle named Ella. She's a labradoodle and I swear she looks just like Bo! I don't know why it kinda bothers me...I guess because we specifically wanted a Goldendoodle for future therapy use for our daughter and it just seems like we didn't get that. I mean we truly love Bo nonetheless. But you know, it would be nice to actually know what he is.

Daniece, It would be very hard to determine if Bo is a goldendoodle or labradoodle by his appearance. There are dogs on DK that look identical and one will be a GD and the other a LD. I have two from the same sire. One is black with a curly wool coat, the other is cream with a fleece coat. Does your breeder have both on their property? Did you see the parents? Sounds confusing. I am thrilled to read how much your daughter is responding to Bo. Sounds like he is just who you need him to be.
Labradoodles don't really have 'skinnier' legs, but the fuller coated doodles (regardless of type) look like they have thicker legs because their coats are nice and thick.  Most F1b goldendoodles would have that thicker coat, but since it is a mix, even an F1b can still resemble more of the retriever than the poodle.  Perhaps he got more of the retriever coat and more of the skinny poodle build.  The trainer and vet might also assume labradoodle because he's black and most people think cream or golden for goldendoodle.  Also doodles vary quite a bit in personality and temperament.  I have one very laid back, mellow, labradoodle and one very energetic, bouncy, spinny labradoodle.  Did the breeder breed both labradoodles AND goldendoodles?

I agree with Adina also especially about the legs. Why do you specifically say you wanted a goldendoodle for therapy use versus any dog for therapy use. I have one of each and they are both certified therapy dogs. No matter what their heritage/lineage says it's up to the individual dog and their personality whether they are apt to be a therapy dog or not. Like kids, some are going to grow up to be a doctor or lawyer or an auto mechanic or housewife etc. It's all in what they want to do and you love them regardless of a label. I'm so happy you are enjoying your dog either way. Doodles rule!
