I am copying my post to Puppy madness here because Ollie is black.

Hello doodle friends! Ok, we just bought a nice new home last July, we got  Ollie in September and he is almost 6 months old. He is still potty training but  ringing the bell to go out about 85% of the time. Sometimes he rings it and I  open the back door and he won't go out w/out me. (Hey! It's 30 degrees!)

So back to my topic, he will sometimes go out and I have no idea what he's  doing back there but he comes back with gross muddy paws (our backyard stays  pretty moist which stinks). I like a clean house so how do I manage this? If I  try to wipe his paws w/ a wet cloth he freiks out and I don't end up really  getting them clean. I've tried running the paws under a faucet but that makes me  get soaking wet because he's thrashing. Is there a happy medium?  We are  looking to buy some new furniture, rugs and I am so afraid to get anything new  bc he just seems to "darken" anywhere he goes!

My Mazie manages to always get dirty feet...I use an empty Folgers can and fill it with soapy water and wash each foot.  Seems to work pretty well and I can move it from foot to foot without sloshing water every where.
