I am so happy to find you all!  I love, love, love to read.  I really like history, novels and autobiographies.

Has anyone read, "The Art Of Racing In The Rain."  I just bought it and plan to start it next week.  (As soon as I finish the current book I'm reading.)  I was thinking it might be fun to have others read it too.  Maybe we could read a few chapters a day and discuss?  It's a book written from a dogs perspective, so it quite appropate for DK. :o)

I didn't think the movie was close to the book at all, lol. The movie really disappointed me. I thought the book was much deeper and much funnier, but also much sadder.
I'm a firm believer in euthanasia too, when the time comes. But it's a devastating thing to go through, nonetheless, as I'm sure you'd agree.
Absolutely, I think dogs are fortunate that when the time comes they can be euthanized and not have to suffer.

I sure didn't know it would come around so quickly.  Groucho Too has cancer and I have already arranged to have the vet come to our home to put him down in one of his favorite places.  Then the pet cemetery will come to the house to pick up his body for cremation.  Ashes will be buried also on our property and we are trying to decide where.  I think it will be by a fountain and with a granite stone.  Our first doodle died of liver failure after a surgery and we had him cremated also and a beautiful box for his ashes.  Groucho Too has his good days and bad days and right now it is good.

We used to read books aloud on our long trips to Colorado (from California). We would select a book we all wanted to read and nobody had read yet. One trip we read Angels and Demons and on another we read DiVinci Code. We would finish the entire book with four adults taking turns reading and also driving. I didn't like to drive so I did double reading. Discuss - naw - but we did have to reread a few parts. The Art of Racing in the Rain would be an excellent read aloud.
I've been meaning to grab a copy of "Art of Racing in the Rain." I heard it's really good. I like the idea of a book club. My work schedule is unpredictable, so I don't know if I could keep up with everyone, but I'd like to try. Let me know if you start a book-club thread!

I'm quickly reading "Eat, Pray, Love" this weekend because I want to see the movie next week. The book is SOOOO GOOD!!!!!
Oh I want to read that one too!! So many books, so little time!
"The Art of Racing in the Rain" was highly recommended to me by a friend on Doodlekisses. I found it to be a lovely book, but it did not make me cry at all. I did cry when I read "Marley and Me", but we had just put our old chocolate lab to sleep and it was the wrong book for me to read at that time. "Where the Red Fern Grows" is a wonderful book and that book touched me deeply when I was much younger and I still remember the names of the two dogs in that book. Normally, I forget characters, etc., but not in that book. If you have never read it, it is certainly worth picking up. Not a book, but the movie I highly recommend for dog lovers is "My Dog Skip"......I almost had to be carried out of that one. I was gulping crying and my daughter was mortified. Every time I see the ending and hear Harry Connick Jr narrating I well up. It too is based on a book. I got off the topic a little, but there are a lot of wonderful dog books out there.

"Art" was okay but sad. A Dogs Life by Peter Mayle (I love his books) is a fun one from a dogs perspective!

If you like books about relationships with dogs try Pack of Two by Caroline Knapp. My book group read Let's take the long way home by Gail Caldwell, a sad but compelling memoir about herself, her best friend Caroline and their dogs, which led me to read Pack of Two.
