I am so happy to find you all!  I love, love, love to read.  I really like history, novels and autobiographies.

Has anyone read, "The Art Of Racing In The Rain."  I just bought it and plan to start it next week.  (As soon as I finish the current book I'm reading.)  I was thinking it might be fun to have others read it too.  Maybe we could read a few chapters a day and discuss?  It's a book written from a dogs perspective, so it quite appropate for DK. :o)

There has been some scattered discussion of The Art. I read and enjoyed it. Don't quite believe it all but it was sad and funny.
I read it, too, and enjoyed it.
Started reading it, thought it might be sad. So I stopped. Couldn't do a sad book right now.
I read it a couple years ago and loved it. Yes, it is sad at times but I would highly rec. Unfortunately, as much as I love to read.....I forget books rather quickly and can't remember specifics, just if I loved it or not. :-/ I'm also not one to read a book more than once but I wouldn't mind re-reading that one down the line. If you love dog stories, another place to look is in young adult/children's. One of my very favorites is "Where the Red Fern Grows" kind of a classic like "Old Yeller".
Oh, Where the Red Fern Grows is one of my all time favorite books....however, it made me scared of mountain lions and we have them around here. I saw a lioness and her cub across the road one day while we were out riding bikes, and I just turned around and got out of there. Can I blame that on Where the Red Fern Grows??
Thie is good to know, I will put Where The Red Fern...on the list.
OOhhh like a book club and discussion?? That sounds great to me!! I think you are onto something here April. Only question, does it have a sad ending to those who have read it? I don't like dog stories with sad endings.....
I recently read this book (actually because of what I'd heard about it in the DK booklovers group!). I enjoyed it and would be happy to have a discussion group about it.
Maybe I will be brave and read it. Let me know if we will discuss it.
Too scared right now. I am just a huge baby when it comes to these type of books/movies.
I saw Marley and Me in the theater and cried the entire way home, cried myself to sleep and hugged Taquito.
Racing in the Rain is not really sad, nothing at all like Marley. The dog tells the story himself, from his perspective; I don't want to spoil it for anyone, but this book did not make me cry.
I didn't think the Art of Racing in the Rain was sad at all. It was a great story. But I didn't have any problem either with Marley and Me. And the movie was very close to the book. But, then, I am a real believer in canine euthanesia. We have had to put down our last three dogs after long, wonderful lives with our family. Of course, the doodles are mine, and I will take care of them to the bitter end. The other dogs belonged to my husband and son, so that was not so hard on me. You know when it is time, and I will be brave.
