I love to read and I have "downstairs" books and "upstairs" books. The downstairs ones are the more serious ones, or the more contemporary novels everyone reads. Upstairs though, is a whole different story. These are the books in my "I wouldn't be caught dead reading this on an airplane" category. Topping the list for me is the Twilight Saga. I loved these books. They tapped into some small reserve of teen romance and angst that I wasn't aware that I possessed.  My embarrassment over these books has nothing to do with the books themselves. Everyone I know has read them...including my friend's 12 year old daughter and all of her friends.

One of my friends "confessed" to reading the Vampire Diaries books with such angst that I thought she was going to tell me she was having an affair.

Thank Doodle I don't dream about them! I mainly gravitate to the grisliest ones.

Karen, I just saw this note about you liking the true crime books and books about the famous psychokillers. Have your read the Ann Rule Books?  There are 2 books she wrote that involved cases I knew a lot about.  One was "Dead By Sunset", and the other was "The I-5 Killer". My husband Alan was one of the detectives on a couple of the murders committed by the I-5 killer. I had not met my husband yet, but he told me about it later.  Lots to say about those. The other murder was committed here in Portland...the "Dead By Sunset" one.  I was very familiar with that one, as my ex-husband was involved in the legal representation there. Not good at all.  I was distressed about that at the time.
"Small Sacrifices" is one of my favorites. I've read a few of her others, but not the ones you mentioned. Now that I know someone who knows about the cases, I might have to read them, lol.
Wasn't "Small Sacrifices" about Diane Downs? She actually got engaged to the I-5 killer for awhile, and was recently hoping to be paroled. She escaped from prison up here and I think she is in CA. now. That was really sad....if that is the one I am thinking of.
It was about Diane Downs. I knew she had escaped from prison at one point, but she was found. I think she's still locked up. I'll have to do some Googling and see.
Love Twilight... but my secret lover affair is with the Harry Potter books! I'm obsessed! I read them ALL over again before each new movie comes out... and I'm one of those crazy fans you see on TV that dresses up for the premiers at bookstores and movies... did I mention... I'm almost 26!
Kendra, my secretary (probably my mother's age) even reads Harry Potter! You can be any age!

I still feel too old for Twilight, but I found myself blushing like a school girl while reading them...=)
I have to admit if its not a book I am reading People, US Magazine, or someother celebrity rag magazine LOL
I'll confess to the Twilight series! But my guilty pleasure is chick-lit. Don't ask me why! I am not a high maitenance person by any means but throw in a New York gal with an awesome loft apartment with work and boy troubles and I'm hooked! Slightly embarassing but here are a few good authors- Sophie Kinsella, Jennifer Weiner, & Jodi Picoult.
Jennifer Weiner - check.....Something Borrowed, Something Blue, etc......
My guilty pleasure books are the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. An Echo in the Bone is her latest release. The Highlander with Christopher Lambert is a movie based on her book series. I also love anything post apocalyptic such as The Stand by Stephen King and The Passage by Justin Cronin (this book was just released June 8th). I also confess to loving the Twilight books and I gave them to my daughters (ages 34 and 22) to read.

Frannie, I love that you have upstairs and downstairs books. I have two Kindles - one for my thought provoking books and the other for the fun reads. (One of the Kindles was a gift to my husband which I confiscated since he doesn't read as much as I do.)
Sue I am just finishing "The Passage"....What did you think of it?
