But my daughter did the research and you'll never guess who puts out a good quality dog food. Presidents Choice the Superstore generic products. They took their cheap dog food and primed it up and call it President's Choice Nutrition First. Somebody in the PC headquarters must have a dog that they care about how they feed it or something.
It has probiotics for digestion, antixidants for the immune system, glucosamine and chondroitin for joint heath, omega-3 fatty acids, no corn, wheat, soy or biproducts. 23% protein and 13% fat. Not bad for a generic dog food brand. eh?
I have no Superstore or PC affiliation in even the remotest way, this is just one Canadian doodle owner to another.

Hi Rose. I would be very suspicious about the sourcing of this dog food. A company like PC would get many of the ingredients through third party brokers (that's how they can charge such inexpensive prices). Third party brokers find the least expensive sources for ingredients (China) and we all know about the terrible illnesses and deaths that have been caused by China sourced dog foods :( I would bet this food is not even manufactured in Canada. Without looking at the ingredients, I would say that the protein level is also very low. The food I feed Gavin is 34% protein. There are much better Canadian dog food companies out there (some of the best in North America). And with an "expensive" food you feed less because it is more calorie dense with less fillers. Join the food group and search for a discussion on the cost of feeding. Two excellent Canadian Companies are Champion Food (makers of Orijin and Acana) and Petcurean Food (makers of GO! and NOW!). Both have impeccable reputations and do not source from China. I like to support our Canadian Companies who support our Canadian farmers and you will be surprised at the small difference in feeding cost once you do the analysis.
I don't doubt that there are better dog foods out there. I wasn't meaning to compare it to the ultra dog foods, just the good quality ones. It was equal in value to a quality brand that a friend had recommended to her that she buys at Costco. For Molly at 60 lbs it only requires 2 1/4 cups which is quite dense. We don't feed ourselves filet mignon, though we do enjoy a steak on occasion, we follow a similar standard in feeding our furry family member. We could feed her a better quality food, we could also feed her a far worse one. I understand that PC dog food is made by Elmira Pet Foods out of Ontario, Canada.
Not sure what you mean by ultra, but I just can't agree with this being a good food based solely on sourcing issues. There are members on this forum that have lost their dogs and others who dogs have sustained permanent kidney damage and other expensive health issues due to the commercial dog food contamination from Chinese sourcing. As I said, it is not always expensive as it looks on first blush.
Here is a list of recommended brands that have been carefully researched and have SAFE sourcing: http://www.doodlekisses.com/group/thefoodgroup/forum/topics/recomme...
And here is a chart on the actual cost of feeding some of the the popular and premium foods: http://www.crittercabana.com/dog-food-costs-per-month-comparison/
It is interesting to note that Orijin (our most highly recommended brand and Canadian) cost .20 more per day to feed than Beneful. That is less than the cost of one cup of coffee per week. Incidentally Purina Pro Plan is .20 more per day than Orijin.
Please consider contacting PC to inquire about the source of all of their ingredients to ensure they have safe sourcing. p.s. Costco does source through third party brokers (read China). It is less a question of "ultra" vs "good" as safe vs unsafe.
Your disagreement has been noted. :)
