I was just wonder how cold it can get before you finally put your foot down and say no walk today, it's just too cold!
it's about -15 here today, add in the windchill and it's probably about -18. I notice when I let Bruce out in the yard, a few minutes out and he's lifting his paws off the ground, and lays down.
I've tried booties, but they are not made well enough to stay on Bruce's feet
anybody else think -15 is too cold for a walk?

I use my judgment. I walk from the bus stop to home every day (5 mins walk) after work and if I can't feel my face by the time I reach the house, due to the frigid -15 or lower temperatures, I say "no" to a walk.

Sunny is just as happy if we spend 30 mins playing fetch or tug with him around the house, because it's 1-on-1 time he gets with us. We did this last week. We had the soccer ball, tennis ball and other toys flying around...as sort of used him as a "monkey in the middle"...and he was POOPED by the time the 30 mins was up. Major mental stimulation + exercise. So, if it's too cold for you...and he's lifting his paws...it's probably a little cold for a walk (in my opinion). But then again, if you live somewhere where it's cold like that ALLLL winter, then your situation is probably slightly different. Check his paws too. If they are cracked, etc...that could be why he's lifting his paws. He's laying down in the snow, so he probably doesn't mind the cold too badly.
It was down to -22 before Christmas and we still went for a walk. Charlie was ok but I was close to frozen. I did purchase Muttluks and he wears them religiously when the temp goes below -10 that is when I notice ice cubes forming between his paws
I have walked my dog when is has been -20 and below, but the distance depends on the wind-chill!! He doesn't mind the cold at all, I am usually frozen well before he is!! But we did get him some boots that we use when the weather is really cold, as he was getting bad snowballs between his toes! We got ours from a company called Ruffwear and they fit pretty good, they even have socks to use so the boots don't rub their feet!!
Hi I've found that Maggie is getting used to the cold now and it doesn't seem to bother her as much. I still walk her twice a day when it is below -20, but keep it to 15minutes at most. If my legs are frozen, I'm guessing hers are too. I have a deck that she goes out on and often lays down for a snooze even when it is really cold.
