Hi guys i dont know where should i post this ...so ill just start the discussion here. I'm sure most people in vancouver has encountered raccoons..i've noticed them more in my neighborhood. i know they have been knocking off our garbage cans.. and also my mom noticed raccoon poo in our back yard. I did find raccoon poo ( iwould think so .it's a lot larger than puppy poo ) few weeks ago. I thought they might of went away.
i do need to let emma out to pee at night aroun 11pm or 1030p. im really worried emma would encounter one .she's only 13 weeks now. i know raccoons and dogs do get into fights. ive spoke to my vet ..and he said deworming would help .
thank for your suggestions or experiences in this topic
At 13 weeks old I would be taking her out on a leash to pee, particularly at that time of night if there is danger lurking. In fact we took our guy on a leash to pee until he was several months old. It helped with the potty training process and to get him to pee on command in the spot that we wanted. Even at 9.5 months were do not leave him outside at night unsupervised due to the wildlife (racoons, porcupines, etc.)
hi BruceGirl, thanks for the reply..yeah i do put her on a training lead adn I guide her to where she needs to pee.
I do supervise her outisde at all times..
I would keep a garden hose handy. If a fight breaks out, you can disrupt it by shooting water at the raccoon. I have chased porcupines away by doing this.
not to mention large birds like owls theyd have no problem attacking a pup. We lost a large cat to a Racoon why would a small puppy be any differant.I wouldn't let her out alone for a while.
