Fading

Has anyone noticed their red doodle fading on the back? Timbow's hair has a part down the middle of his back and I've been noticing that it is starting to get lighter. He is still very red, but seems to have some light spots on his head and back. I'm thinking maybe it's from not getting as much sun?!

Holly's coat has always had lighter spots on her head and back, but it was way more noticeable when we got her trimmed. She's a lighter doodle anyways though. I bet it could be from the lack of sun...interesting :).

Haha, you better take that boy to the tanning salon! Gus and Molly haven't lightened up at all, but they are only 9 months old, so I suppose there's still time. However, Molly's nose has changed from black to rosy-pink, which makes it much easier for us and friends to tell them apart. I'm hoping that Gus's nose remains black for just that reason.

That is interesting. Teri Fann would tell you that the lighter color was FROM the sun. Cimmy was really strawberry blonde this summer and now she is darker. The part down the back you were talking about has always been dark for Cimmy. That and her tail, her feet and her ears. She really lightened up around the face. Now she is outside for really long stretches multiple times a day (in this absolutely freezing weather!!!) and she is darker. I certainly don't have an answer for you. But I am interested in what you find out! Good luck!

That is what I originally thought, but I didn't notice this in the summer. It may be because his hair is so long? His hair is light towards his skin, but the ends are a very dark red. During the summer it was opposite, dark red near the skin with light red highlights on the ends. I will try to take a picture of the "part" to amuse Yvonne and show you guys!

I believe you and Teri are right Betsy, the sun makes hair lighter, skin darker, at least on humans!

Timbow has a "part"? Oh dood...you are so fancy. Do you think it is because his hair is longer? Astro does not have a "part". But this is sure for a good laugh...I french braided his hair while we were down in FL. I did it right down his back. It was cute for a minute. Allyson thought it was hysterical.

Timbow has a part because his hair is like a lions!!! Soooo long! I actually don't like it and brush him nightly to try to make it go away. French braiding?? Please tell me you took a picture!

No photos, but I will give you a demo in a few weeks. I used to braid my horse sooooo why not a dog. DH was not amused. Smile.

Oh and Astro's nose is changing like sister Molly...to a brownish pink.

Yes! My dog has a part down her back too! It just started a few weeks ago?? I wonder if its a cherokee thing? Her nose is fading to a brown too

Is her hair long? Timbow's hair is really long and I think that's where the part comes from? Not sure though. :)
