Just day-dreaming about summer.  I was thinking about boating at the cottage this year and wondering if I should get Gavin a life jacket to wear on the boat.  What do other's do?

I bought the wrong size for my smaller dood the first time - went in and guessed and it was too small when I got home.  My husband took it back and changed it for the next size up (Petsmart) with no issues.  Our problem is that the nearest Petsmart is 1 1/2 hours away!!  Both of my doods will swim as as soon as the ice breaks on the pond, the water is still freezing cold but they don't care!

Hi Stella...

I know what you mean about our Doods not caring about cold water!!

Sasha was in the water today...as happy as can be!!

Of course...we are in South Carolina...but...it is still February!!  Lol...

I really do like Pet Smart for the same reason as you stated.

They are Great about returns!!

And that's Very Helpful...

We have a boat and I bought life jackets for both R&B.  I was lucky to find the Premier Pet ones at Tuesday Morning for $10 each and they fit great.  It's such peace of mind when she has it on in the lake because the currents can get strong, the water is cold in MI so it help protect her from cold and Rosey can exhaust herself because she won't stop doing anything she loves.  So definately a worthwhile investment and safety measure for any dog spending a lot of time in the water.

Wow...you really were lucky to find those jackets at Tuesday Morning Suzann!

I'll have to stop in and take a look occasionally...just to see if I'm as lucky as you are...

I know I love Tuesday Morning!! They I have found a few great dog things there.  I just realized Bandit's may be to small I will have to to try it on him  Here are some pics of Ms. Rosey!

Awww, cute pictures of Rosey!
Thank you!!

Early last summer we met a doodle while swimming at the dog beach.  I felt really bad for this doodle.  All bundled up in a life jacket.  I thought the parents were extremely over protective.   Well, I learned my lesson.  Come to think about it there are many reasons to life jacket a dog that I thought about afterwards.  But, here is the reason this dog was wearing his life jacket.

He loves to dive and WILL NOT return to the surface until he finds the toy.  In this lake water that could mean forever.   He is ball and toy obsessed ( oh my who could have a dog like that???  not me )  and just can't take his eyes off the prize even if it meant drowning.  I think they had a good idea to keep him safe but still happy and playing in the water.

P.S.   I saw some great life jackets at T. J. Max a few months back.  Worth checking out.

Yep, people thought I was a little wacko but I would rather be safe than sorry.  Rosey would swim until she dropped and that could happen in an instant, and it's not like you can see in a lake like a pool...
We are trying to kayak with our dogs and both wear life jackets. I like the handle on top, which makes it easy to grab onto if there is a problem. I found them at TJ Maxx. Fudge does not like to get the top of her head wet, so she appreciates the life vest. Next, she will want a swimming cap :)
I have a vision of you, in the kayak, trying to lift Vern out of the water by that little handle.  ;-)
A swimming cap, now that I would like to see!
