Well, then I am in trouble and must not have true Labradoodles. LOL. Vern sheds a little and Fudge is not all that calm, especially when in the vicinity of squirrels :)

There is a rabbit that lives by our house. When we go out front to take a walk, the second Jakes out the door he is looking for that rabbit.Oh he wants to get it!

Fudge reacts to anything moving.....cars, squirrels, deer, groundhogs. I consider all of these to be hazardous to my health when  I am walking her :)
My two are non-shedding, but I certainly wouldn't call them calm.  They are puppies still, so maybe as they get older.  One can always hope.

Interesting. My Maple does not shed, is fairly mellow (over thinks things a bit though) but I am going for rotator cuff tear surgery in a couple of weeks due to her springing after a squirrel while on a leash :(

What does "calm" mean anyway? Not biting children, sleeping 24/7 or somewhere in between?

My opinion of that statement is that it's incomplete. The complete statement should be:

,"A true Labradoodle is non shedding and calm...in your dreams".
Or possibly: ,"A true Labradoodle is non shedding and calm...when stuffed".

Honestly, it's silly. We all know that many labradoodles shed...mixed breed dogs with genes from heavily shedding breeds and non-shedding breeds are going to have lots of variation in their coats. And "calm" is a relative term that depends a great deal on the age of the dog. My 6-year-old labradoodle is calm. A 6-month-old labradoodle who is described as "calm" is probably sick.
And what the heck is meant by a "True Labradoodle"? Do some of us have fake labradoodles? Is this an extension of the "designer dog" theme, like counterfeit Prada handbags?
Dollars to doughnuts, this statement was made by a breeder, and not a very good one.
LOL! "counterfeit Prada handbags"! Cute. Your so right! I mean really what the heck do they mean by a "real" labradoodle? It is or it isn't.. and that has nothing to do with whether it sheds or is "clam".... whatever that means.... I do not comprehend. ((wink)) It's either a lab poodle hybrid or it's not. Period. That is a real labradoodle.

To that I say.....HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

Please don't tell my friend who has a bouncy, active labradoodle that sheds a bit, but is absolutely gorgeous and so sweet you just wanna kiss him, that she doesn't have a "true labradoodle." She, no doubt, would laugh, too.

I asked a person at a local dog wash if their cute, damp, curly, black, long-tailed dog was a doodle. I was told, "No, he was the REAL DEAL. He is a Portuguese Water Dog!"  Hmmmm. I thought my dogs were REAL dogs, too.

People can be just so darn goofy!

Why the attitude about Labradoodles??The lady that said that about a,"true labradoodle was on U Tube and it just rubbed me the wrong way.Jake is as true as I ever want to get.I love him just the way he is.And I'm sure every Doodle owner feels the same way.

I know I don't have a labradoodle, but this is insane. Doodles are real too they just look fake.

Haha! The real deal? Really.. hmmm... To that I would have to say "real compared to what"? Just to see what they'd say.

I don't agree with that statement. I have 2 labradoodles. A mini and a standard. One doesn't shed at all and the other sheds a little. The one that sheds (standard) is super mellow and the one (mini) that doesn't shed is not as mellow. There are both different but still labradoodles and I dearly love them.
