My Dog Ate Medical Tape and Vet told me to give him Metamucil ....

This morning, my 3 year old Goldendoodle ate medical tape (that was wrapped around his paw  - he's recuperating from surgery .....removal of a turmor).  Doc said to give him metamucil.... which I did.  Now I'm thinking that wasn't a great idea .... I think the metamucil is slowing down the digestion (elimination). I haven't seen any signs of intestinal blockage, other than lack of BM.  Anyone have experience with the effects of metamucil on dogs?  He had just finished his breakfast of dry kibble (and the DARN tape) when I administered the metamucil.... seems like he should have done his business by now ?

I've used it as a stool bulkening agent on our elderly dog who had random loose stools now and then.  All it did for her was create a gelatinous mass so it was easier top pick up.
My daughter was told by her vet to give her Rhodesian Ridgeback one of the individual packs (2 cookies) of Metamucil Waffers once a day as needed to her for anal sac smell.  It firmed up the poop and allowed the sacs to self express I guess...no smell any longer.  If she were to start smelling again, she will get more cookies!!!
Sometimes, the anesthetic has a constipating effect, combined with the resticted activity and lack of exercise. It's not unusual for dogs to go several days without a bowel movement after surgery.
Yes, adynamic ileus as it's called is common. That's why they they used to not allow patients to leave the hospital after abdominal surgery until they passed at least gas.
