Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Fido is a two-year-old Labradoodle, and he has been diagnosed with Idiopathic Epilepsy, manifested in grand mal seizures. Before the seizure, he runs around crazily and then falls over on his side and has uncontrollable muscle activity. With 3 grand mal seizures since January, 2011, each increasing in intensity and duration, Fido was placed on medication last Monday (150 mg Zonisamide 2x daily).

I hope Fido's seizures are an anomaly amongst our Doodle family members, but I thought it best to let the community know. Otherwise, he is a healthy, happy, adorable, sweet, and playful fellow, and the best friend I've ever had.

As a follow-up, it has been about a year, and I'm grateful to say, no further seizures for Cassie. We suspect it might have been related to her Heartguard. She always seems to feel a little "off" for a day or two after taking it. However, we realize how important it is for her, so we're just careful not to overlap her Advantage and Heartguard dosages. Our vet said that since she was 5yo before her first seizure, it wasn't likely going to be a chronic problem. My sister had a shepherd who had two seizures in his life, once at 8 and once at 14. I do hope Cody is doing well.

so happy to hear this!  Cody also continues seizure free as long as he stays on his meds.  He's still the best dog ever!
