I have seen beautiful braided leather leashes and a long while back decided I would like to make one. I decided to practice by making a leash out of paracord which is used for paracutes. It is light, durable and easy to work with. I made one for Luca but poor (or was it lucky) Calla never got one. Finally I have finished hers. There are ways to braid the loop end back into the leash but I really haven't seen a good ending technique. Luca's leash has held up well but the "ending" is starting to fray. I tried a new technique for Call's but we'll see. I liked how the simple end worked on a pull tab I had made when he was in training.  The snap bolts can be bought in hardware stores. The paracord comes in many colors and I got mine online from an Army surlpus store. The leashes can be laundered. The braids are made using four cords and the pattern can be varied, as it is on these two pieces. I prefer the second pattern. There are instructions for braiding on the web, I forget from one time to the next. I don't know if I'll ever get to an eight cord leather leash : )

This looks really good.  This is something I might be tempted to try, thanks for the idea.
Oh, these are really nice! I might try to make long line with this... I wonder if you can burn / melt the end?
People do burn the ends but I don't like it much. I did back braid the first leash but I didn't like it much either.
