Hide things in the house?

[Laura & Chewie]

On occasion Chewie will try to hide something (usually a bully stick).  It's so amusing...he will walk around looking for a spot thinking we're not watching.  He will sometimes try and "bury" it in a cushion on the couch or "dig" a hole in the carpet in the corner.

 

We have been working on some resource guarding issues with him and I wonder if this is related.  It is quite funny to watch though.  Even funnier is I think he sometimes forgets where he leaves his "treasure" as I will find it weeks later behind the drapes or some other out of the way place.

Ned doesn't do this at all - except he hides himself in the pillows on the bed. Just FYI so you can compare if other dogs who hide things resource guard. Ned doesn't resource guard either.

[Leslie and Halas]

Halas will sometimes wander around looking for a spot to hide something. If he can't find a good spot, he'll start to cry a little bit. Halas doesn't have any resource guarding issues, so in his case, I don't think the two behaviors are related.

My old Chow Chow used to try burying things in the couch. But he does not resource guard...

Oh yes...under the bed. At any given time, there is a good collection of his tennis balls under the bed.
