Charlie is heading to the groomers for the first time tomorrow.  We are going to a place that was recommended by a non-doodle owning friend of mine.  I think the groomer has done doodles but I don't personally know them.  Charlie is 8 months old and has a couple of matts (one under ear, one behind a leg and one in his beard) but that's it.  His hair on his back is the longest at about 5 inches.  When I spoke with the groomer over the phone I asked if she could scissor cut 1 1/2-2 inches off she thought I was nuts asking her to scissor a puppy but said she could do it but it would cost quite a bit more....$25 more.  She said it would be easiest to use the clippers and she could keep it 1 1/2 inches long.  Well I'm totally willing to pay it because I don't want him to be that short yet...she seemed to think 1 1/2 was long.  I love the way he looks now but thought I would be ahead of the 'matting' game if he got a trim now.  His next haircut will be a shorter summer cut for sure.  So my question is...how many dogs get scissored and is it that big of a request?  Also...for those few matts how do I tackle them?  This is my first experience.  :)

Thanks for the photo help Nancy!

He looks adorable and I bet he is really soft and you can't keep your hands off him. This is a pic of Quincy's first scissor cut. I was really nervous about what I would find when I went to pick him up, but the biggest shock was the price at $120.

he is gorgeous!!!! I would LOVE that cut for Bella...

1 WEEK LATER (after the fluffy poofiness died down!)

Yea you did it and Charlie looks just adorable!!! He is perfect!!!

Looks like you had more luck than I did! He looks great!

I just took Bella for her first ever grooming - I asked them to trim her hair around her eyes so she could see and her rear end and pads. Well I didn't recognise her when I picked her up - they shaved her face and shaved her feet like a poodle then brushed her coat straight so she looked so weird, poor thing. She went from this........to this..............she could tell as well that she looked different because she was not her usual bouncy self, I bathed her yesterday and scrunched her coat up a bit and trimmed the top of her head to make her look more herself.........Now she is much happier :0)
LOL she does look so much happier in her natural doodle state! So cute!
lol - my son asked who she was when I put her in the car after being groomed - he is 2 and kept saying "that not my puppy" - poor thing no wonder she was so sad!
OMD!  The groomer's pic is just hillarious.  I think that is what happens when they brush and blow dry at the same time.  She was poofy, all right!  Scrunching instead of using a brush while drying would help and I bet she was very happy to have you grooming her instead of the groomer.
I know!!!!!! She honestly didn't even look like the same dog I took in! I would never have recognised her in the street! Poor thing, needless to say I will not be taking her back there and may invest in clippers and scissors myself lol
It looks like rock star hair in the second picture...LOL. You did a great job of fixing up her cute Doodle hair!
