Anyone use EPO Evening Primrose Oil used to help with itching from grooming....?

I wasn't sure whether to post this in grooming or in the atopic dermatitis group but since its not a "chronic" problem I am going with grooming :-)

I have seen mentioned people using Evening Primrose Oil to help with itching, especially after grooming.  Where do you get the EPO and how do you give it and how much?  What kind of positive changes do you see if you are using it? Thanks! Denise & Hunter

It helps Gracie with her allergy itching. She gets 1 - 500 mg capsule daily as maintenence. If she is in an escalating itchy phase I double that dosage until it passes. The itching lessens within a day or so. I buy them usually at Kroger but any human vitamin store will have them and many drugstores as well. Gracie is a 30 lb mini but I think this dose is kind of standard for all sizes.
Great, thank you. I am going to try it, is it actually an oil in the capsul? Does she just swallow it?
Denise,
We used EPO with great results. My second foster had some horrible skin when she first came to us.

We purchased ours at Ritzmans (?) Pharmacy on the corner of 5th Avenue and Robinson Ave. in Barberton. It costs less than $10.00 and can be found in the woman's health section.

We used one capsule a day 1,500 mg.
It is oil in a cap, like vita E usually is. I just drop it (the whole cap) in Gracie's food and she just eats it.
I use it for my girls as well. I buy from Puritan Pride website. Someone on here mentioned it one day. It has helped my Sophie's itching quite a bit. She was particularly bad after a bath. I've switched to a medicated shampoo and conditioner and use the EPO and she is good to go. I'm with Joanne ... I do a total of 1500 daily, 2/ 500's in the am and 1/ 500 in the pm
We bought it in bulk from Puritan's Pride. I accidentally bought the 1,000 instead of the 500 so that is what they get a day. We really haven't noticed a difference for two of the dogs, but it made a noticeable difference to our Springer's dry skin. Ned has bouts of itching but I really am not sure if they ebb and flow because we don't give the EPO for a bit or not.
Thanks everyone! I am going to go get some tomorrow for Hunter :-) Cross your fingers for us - I will let everyone know how it works :-)
