Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I saw this on FaceBook this morning and thought that it was one of the best Grooming Videos I've seen.  While I like the Grooming Sully videos that we usually reference, this one is just 40 minutes and really shows the basics.  If you have been thinking about trying your hand at grooming, this will be the best 40  minutes that you spend.  I've been doing my own doodles for probably 5 years now and I learned a great deal from this video.  While I personally thought that the doodle was already too short before she even began clipping, that is just my preference.  I like my girls longer and shaggier.  That being said though I thought that she did an amazing job at showing how to groom.  You can watch this and then fine tune it for how you like your doodle.  It really isn't that hard.  What I liked the most is how she kept talking about "owner preference".  That there is no standard for doodles and it is all about what the owner wants.  The difference in the coats has a lot to do with it.  We have one that has the more thick even poodle type coat and then one that has the shaggy thick/thin hair going in every direction.  She is harder to clip because you have to learn how to deal with her hair going in every direction.

Very well done, enjoyed watching it.   Thank you!

Very good! I'm going to be purchasing a clipper soon, and excited to try it out!

Are there comb attachments that will leave the coat longer? I am just starting to get grooming tools together and I have a Wahl I purchased many years ago - actually to clip a cat that had a very thick, short coat that matted easily and who hated brushing. I was wondering whether it would be appropriate for my fleece coat doodle girl and whether I'll need to learn how to scissor cut in order to get her coat longer. The last groomer used a #4 attachment on her body and it is way to short for her in the winter.

Yes there are comb attachments for the Wahl clippers.  I'm not too familiar with theirs as I have Andis clippers.  I use them on mine.  I use a 1" one on AnnaBelle and either 1/2 or 3/4 on Lucy with a #10 blade.

Judith,

I have those combs and the 2 speed Andis Clippers.  From what I understand, the combs can be used with the Andis 10 blade ONLY!   I have not tried it, so I can not confirm.

For the last 18 months, Spud has had only a scissor cut but I was just thinking the other day, especially since I found the best steel groomer comb ( comb for coat maintenance-not cut)  that really works on him that it might be time to try the combination Combs + 10 blade the next groom  (hair cut)

I'll let you know if I do. It will be a few weeks

I use the Andis ACG clipper and use the combs with the 40 blade. I find the 10 blade doesn't work for me, not sure why. What can I say, I'm a grooming rebel. :>) The coat does have to be combed out really, really well first or the combs get tangled and pop off.

I've actually seen this video a few months ago... maybe sooner.

There are a lot of good videos out there now.  This one was very good.  There are  few more that work great with lines on the body... loved those.   Also a few good face  only videos

I like this video and think this groomer does a really good job of explaining the steps involved. I have used her How to Groom a Cockapoo video for Tara in the past. I didn't realize she had a Doodle video too!  I have to admit though I like the "before" better then the "after". It just seems so short, I thought I could see pink skin showing through at times!  :(
