I've been reading other posts and still feel unsure which brush to use. Riley is 9 months and seems to be going through a coat change. I've been using a petco brush (pic below) and it seems to be doing ok. But the more I read the more I wonder if I'm doing this wrong. Her coat is like cotton so I assume that is fleece. I see terms like pin and slicker brush and I'm not sure what I'm supposed to use. Could someone please advise what type of brush (slicker, pin, etc) I should start with? There are so many options I have no idea which to even look at. Thanks so much!

If you aren't having any problems with the brush you are using, then you don't need to change.  You use what works for your dog.  I happen to NEED the LesPoochs slicker and a steel comb for Ned.  For Clancy, I LIKE using the LesPoochs and a steel comb.  HUGE difference between need and like.  Right now you cannot get the LesPoochs but you can get a knock off which works okay.  It is made by MGT.

Thanks, that helps!

Hi Christy, Please read my free E-Book "6 secrets to keeping your Doodle tangle free" and you will know which brush to use, among many other useful things ;-) You can download it on my Doodle Comfort Facebook page and here on my Doodle Kisses page. Enjoy :-) xxx

Thanks Wanda. Beyond picking the right brush, my other challenge is getting Riley to sit still...also one of your points in the ebook.  :-) She likes to wiggle around and bite at the brush like it's a game or she'll bite at the area I just brushed. Trying to be very careful so I don't hurt her and therefore cause her to want to chew herself. Right now she has a few mats in her armpits so when I pet her I sometimes try to work through them a little bit with my hand. As soon as I get near it, she licks me like crazy. Kind of like she is saying...Nice try mom but I know what you're doing and I'm having none of that. I ordered a few brushes this weekend so hopefully that will make it easier...for her and me!

I had a groomer tell me to put my dog on a table to groom him, because he wouldn't hold still.  I worked.

Love my comb with rotating teeth more than any brush. So does my dog. :)
