He was 8 mos yesterday! We managed to keep him relatively matte free until a few weeks ago I guess. His puppy coat shedding was giving us a real mess! Though I hated to do it.. I took him to the groomer and asked that she do her best! =)))

Here is before and after!

Beautiful cut!!!!  I love his face!

I admire you for going ahead with the short coat.  I just cannot bring myself to do it and yet I know Hurley is going to need a shorter coat for summer.   I am taking him to a groomer today just for the usual groom but plan to talk to her about cutting as opposed to shaving him for the summer.  BTW Doc and Hurley look close to the same color.  Hurley is 16 months old and started the coat change and about 8 months.  I brush him every other day for at least an hour to keep the mats out.

Doc looks great!!  Really cute!!

Handsome boy!

Thank you all! The groomer did say something that I have been wondering about.. maybe someone here knows. When I attributed his matting to loosing his puppy coat and said that I hoped this one shaving/with more regular brushing after would take care so that he doesnt have to be shaved down again.. she said that he would probably need it twice a year because he will shed his coat twice a year and cause matting if not brushed extra during those two times. With a busy toddler and now one on the way.. I am left with very little energy. Thankfully my teenage daughter is stepping it up in the "Doc's care" department. She is such a blessing, both of my girls are! Just wondering if the groomers statement is true.. if Doc will shed heavily (like loosing his pup coat) twice yearly? I had thought that bc of his fleecy coat he would not shed in the same way a typical dog does but instead just require more regular grooming/trimming of his hair.. more like a human's hair does?

I don't have that here, so not real sure what she is talking about.  The brushing is the key.  Every dog is different though.  Do you have the Les Pooches brush.  If you don't it is a life saver.  Tell your daughter that if she would spend 10 mins a day brushing him out with the Les Pooch brush it will be so simple to keep him looking great and it isn't a huge chore.  It is a bonding experience.  Even every other day would be great.

I do not have that brush. I have wanted one, they are pretty expensive right? I have wondered if it would pay for itself though. If its that good, it may save in trips to the groomer. I will look into it for sure and tell Gabby what you recommended. Thanks for the advice, and earlier kind compliment on my girls! =)
