Does a doodle shed winter coats, too?

Suddenly, Charlie started to develop some matts again. I thought she was done with coat changes since she did not matt much for past few months. However, past 2  weeks or so, she had developed some matts, and at the end of brushing / combing out, I ended up with quite bit of her hair. I am wondering if this is another phase of puppy coat or shedding of winter coat?

I know that we live in a different part of the country and therefore our winter is way way different, but Ned is matting much less lately and I have no idea why.  He does seem to have periods where his coat is harder or easier to groom.

Yeah, I am wondering what this is,.. Is this the second Phase ( If there is a such thing ) of Puppy coat? Or what?

  Wilson is also going through the same and I noticed that his coat is more wavy and alot softer. hmmmmmm

     I brush and comb him every other day.
