Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Hi Everyone,
I have an 8 month old F1 Goldendoodle who is more retreiver than poodle. He is shedding a lot now, but I am hoping its just his puppy coat.
I would like to start grooming him myself and have a few quick questions...
1, Does anyone have a pet blow dryer that they love and would recommend?
2. I am also trying to find a shampoo that I like and, so far, have been unsuccessful. I want something that smells pleasant, but also nourishes his skin - any recommendations?
3. I need to learn how to clip the hair around his eyes and between his toes - any recommendations for
clippers and places to learn how to do this?
Thank you for your help.
All the best,
Kim

We use "Bio-Groom" OATMEAL shampoo and conditioner on you Lab and our Doodle. It works wonderful for us.
Really wonderful!
Tara has fine fleecy hair and is a mini so I just use a hand held hair dryer for people on her. But other people who have doodles with denser coats use something like this:

Tara also has very sensitive skin and many grooming products cause her to have hives. I use a fragrance free shampoo on her made by EarthScience (Pure Essentials Fragrance Free Shampoo). I don't know if it nourishes her skin or not but it doesn't cause any adverse reaction so I have stuck with it. It is a people shampoo and I have heard pros and cons about using people shampoo on dogs but this one seems to work well for us.
I just use blunt end scissors for trimming around Tara's face. There are have been many discussions in this group about clipper brands and face trimming that you should be able to access using the Search feature.
Here is one about face trimming:

Here is one link to info about clippers. There are other discussions as well that you can find using Search. I use an Andis 2 on Tara.

here is the link to the dryer that I have http://www.petedge.com/product/Grooming/Grooming-Equipment/Dryers-D... I sometimes wish I had a stand dryer instead, but this does the job.
I bought a K9 Challenge-Air Air Max and it's fabulous! I strongly recommend a variable speed on whatever you get. The low speed is nice around the face and for controlled drying. The full speed blows water off so efficiently, you can see it! I'm able to dry Yindi in 12 minutes! I dry Yarra maybe for 10 minutes and then let her air dry.
I have several shampoos I like: Bubbles 'N' Beads; DerMagic; Cowboy Magic to name a few. I don't bathe the girls too often though.
For footwork, I use a 5/8th" blade on my lighted Andis Clippers and 4" Dubl Duck blunt tipped scissors. I do Poodle feet on the girls which shows on Yindi because of her coat type and it's length, but only to the knuckles, not up the ankle as you might for a true Poodle. Yarra gets Poodle feet too but her's don't show because her full coat hides them. However, it lessens the flotsam and jetsam they track in the house. LOL!
