Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

So last weekend I took the plunge. After viewing several you tube videos and reading tips on DK felt like it was time. Piper is my 6 month old whoodle (Wheaton terrier/poodle). I groomed her for over an hour Saturday, it took me a while to try out the different lengths of the combs and figure out what I liked. She was so good for her second hair cut, but she had enough after the hour. I had to finish her up on Sunday, and then did her nails on Monday, lol. I was having trouble trying to figure out how to do her legs. I am very proud of how she turned out for my first haircut. It's not professional looking yet, but it was a successful start. I do realize that indeed to get better scissors and get a blending scissor, I think that will make it easier.
Does anyone have a good grooming video they recommend?
Because she is so black, it was hard to get the proper lighting to see very well. I had a window on one side of her and a lamp on the other side, but then I was getting a glare from the window on the opposite side. I would love to hear if anyone has advice on what kind of lighting would help.

Hi Cathy,

Not bad, but I would try to make his snout rounder, so that it looks more like a Doodle.

I teach owners to groom their own Doodles, so if you want you can go to my FB pages (DoodleComfort in English, or Doodletrimster in Dutch) and look at all the before and after pictures for inspiration.

I give self grooming workshops in the Netherlands where I live, but have also developed professional, easy to follow instruction videos for people living in other countries. You can download my free ebook on my FB page. It looks like your Whoodle has a very thick, plush coat, so I imagine that you can use al the help you can get ;-)

It's my business to inform Doodle owners worldwide about how to take the wellbeing of their Doodle in to their own hands, including everything to do with Doodle Comfort and Doodle health, the right professional grooming techniques, equipment, leadership and how to strengthen the bond based on mutual trust and teamwork.

Black coats are the hardest to groom. That's why some grooming tables have a blue table top ;-) Always use natural light when you are grooming, so best is to stand next to a window. You can put a lamp beside you, but that will still make it difficult to see underneath the body ;-)

Thanks Wanda, I read your free ebook, I found it to be very helpful.

awwww.  So cute!  Congratulations!

Cathy, you did a great job. Piper looks so cute!!
