Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi,
I'm sure this topic has been discussed at lengths before but what's the best way to get matts out? My 9 month double doodle, who I brush every other day, is getting matts daily. I brush them out for the most part and get her groomed every 3 months. Has anyone tried Cowboy Magic detangler? Or any other tricks to helping this? She's very feisty and doesn't sit well for me!

Thanks for any suggestions!

Butch is 10 months and goes to the groomer regularly but is getting his first major clip this week. Hopefully still longish. He has not gone through the dreaded coat change yet. I have every tool ready for when it happens. So far he's only gotten a few mats. Cowboy magic is truly magic. I gave a bit to the groomer. She had been using another product. She too was impressed with cowboy magic. Good luck!

We have the same issue with Cooper , he gets matts really easily . We did get the Cowboy Magic Detangler and it really works. A tool that also helps to detangle is the Safari de-matting comb. I use it with or without the Cowboy Magic.

Line brushing is also the key to really go deep down the undercoat , just brushing on the surface doesn't do the job.

Good luck!

I use Cowboy Magic and Horse Mane 'n Tail Detangler. I also use an Activet slicker brush and a steel comb (the one I currently use is called the Untangler and has rotating tines).  For now, I advise that you brush everyday because the pup is going through the coat change. If you can, I would get her groomed every 4 - 6 weeks.  My doodle is 7 now and I don't have to brush him constantly but I still get him groomed about once a month.
