Questions about grooming

I have a 4 1/2 mos old F1b named Teddy.  I was hoping he would be a non-shedder but in the last two weeks his hair is coming out everywhere.  I have looked at a furminator and I have a steel comb.  Does anyone know why this is happening and is there anything I can do.  I guess it was luck of the draw.

I have an F1 Goldendoodle. I was told that around 4 months doodles will lose their puppy coat (which is the bushy undercoat), which is neat because you'll get to see what their true coat will be (wavy, curly, etc). After that, they will not shed. They should also be losing their baby teeth around this time. Hope that helps.

Thanks.  I was worried that I would have to deal with about a  2 pints of hair shedding each week forever.

The furminator was our best friend for a few months while Lily was in this stage.  It did quit for her beside a little shedding.  I thought she was going to be bald but the hair just kept coming out and growing in at the same time!  It does get better.  Certain brushes are better for different coats of doodles.

I was afraid to use the furminator.  Does it tear out their hair?

My little girl is only 11 weeks old.. so I haven't had to deal with this issue yet. I'd love to hear about furminator too. I don't want to hurt or turn her off to grooming by using the wrong brush.

It works great on Lily's hair, but she does not have curly doodle hair.  You can see my profile picture she is more retriever. Lily does not get mats in her hair but it is getting longer now so I am not sure how it will turn out It never ripped her hair out.

Don't use the furminator.  Someone just recently posted that they got one and Barb from Gemstone Labradoodles who is the head of our grooming group and is a breeder and groomer came back and said why you should use it.  You might want to check the archives on this discussion.  It was in the last month.  Otherwise send her a private message.

Hi...Bridget is 12 weeks old tomorrow.When is the first time most people had their doodle's coat trimmed up? After she has all her necessary vaccinations, I will bring her for a nail trim, sani trim and get those few hairs that go across her eyes trimmed up.. I like all the facial fur and cute eyelashes, but the hair that goes across the eyes, bothers me. I can't imagine seeing is as enjoyable as it might be, with no hair blocking her vision. She has a good, wavy thick puppy coat, so I was curious when I might consider a little bathe and trim, or is it just a personal choice?

My Abby turns 14 weeks tomorrow. I haven't taken her in to a groomer just yet. Probably not a good idea, since she still has one more round of puppy shots. I have trimmed her eye hair once (around 10-11 weeks) and her trimmed her nails and private area a couple weeks ago (around 12) weeks. That has been all she has really required.

See, I don't know if I am ready to do my own doodle stuff...ie: sani area, nails and eye hair. I would not bring her to the groomer until I get the go ahead from the Vet. Maybe the Vet will trim her eye hair tomorrow for me, considering all the $$ I will be dropping this first puppy year :) What a doll Abby is !

Oh, I am sure the vet would help you with trimming the eyes. I was a bit scared at first because since Abby can be a squirmer, but I got a lot of practice with my first dog (a rambunctious Jack Russell Terrier). And I do know most vets clip nails. They usually charge $5, but when they are puppies and you're worried about hurting them it is a great option.

Abby gets her last round of shots next week. It is so weird to be at the vet's office so much. At least the office is close to my house.

Because of his age (and the season of the year) I would say that he is most likely shedding his puppy coat.  Hang in there.  It will pass quickly and he will have his new adult coat.  You can brush him to get him used to grooming.
