My 5 month old GD is super shaggy right now. I swing from living it to thinking he just looks too messy. I was planning to embrace the whole experience of watching his puppy coat change until he started matting, etc. so far he doesn't have any tangles. He's very accepting of brushing/nail trimming. What do you all think? Should I have him groomed or ride it out?

That's "loving" it not "living" it!

He's adorable! If he's not matting, I personally would definitely ride it out! Brush him often and if you can't stand it any longer maybe start with a little face trim?

I've felt the same way about Reggie. He is now 7 months. I've ended up getting a puppy trim where the face and potty areas are trimmed only.
The one good thing about starting to groom now is that he will become accustomed to it. Also, both my doods did not really start to matt until 10months old. So you may still have a ways to go before the worst of it. Enjoy your food, he is a cutey!

I might have him barely trimmed - just shaped up a little, but he is adorable.
