Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Bella is our 16 week multigen labradoodle. She has a fleece coat that was not shedding until a few days ago. This was a couple days after I bathed her. Typically I wouldn't have bathed her for a while but she has a UTI and was very dirty. Anyway, now she is shedding like crazy and I'm not sure if this is a normal puppy thing or not.

My puppy shred quite a lot prior to having him groomed for the first time. Sounds like nothing to worry about.
Sixteen weeks does seem very early for the coat change to begin and in non-shedders this typically starts at around ten months and it doesn't fall out but has to be combed out religiously otherwise you get major matting. Just looking at your gorgeous puppy pic I would guess that this is a scruffy rather than a true fleece coat and you may indeed have a shedder which is not at all unusual in Doodles. Bella is beautiful regardless.
Thank you Nicky, yes, I believe you are correct that she is a shedder. We have plenty of dog hair rollers around cause our other doodle is a shedder too ;)
My puppy shed like crazy, and I thought, crud, my 3rd one and I end up with a shedder! He is 1 now, and I wish I had an exact date for you, but once that fly-away goldenretriever fur fell out, he became more fluffy (oh how I miss the red hair) and he barely sheds. So, don't fret yet :) You may have a non-shedder like mine is now. This was April, 2013, 9 months old. Of course we love the before picture way better!!! We are in very hot weather so I keep mine very short through September-October. Once his body grew out, his crazy head was adorable. He has been cut since this time and his crazy head is gone :(
Monty is 10 months old now and his shedding has kicked into high gear. I now have tumbleweeds blowing across my floor on a daily basis...and I know for a fact it is his hair. He barely shed when we got him at 4 months old, but noticed the shedding really started around 8 months old. It has gotten worse, however. I also have a female Golden and she isn't shedding like he is (although she is a curlier Golden and has never shed much)! He gets brushed every evening and I always get a brush-full of hair out of him. Even with that....the tumbleweeds just keep coming. Since he is my first Doodle...I was not sure when the "blowing of the coat" would end. He has never been groomed....nor do we want him to be. He has a beautiful wavy coat that is multi colored much like your boy, Anita.
