I am starting to brush Agnes' teeth daily, as recommended by our vet. She has some plaque buildup that we don't want to get worse (she's only 10 months old). Any recommendations about techniques or tools? She does not seem to like it at all, especially when I try to get to the teeth in the back. Any advise would be great. Thanks!

Hi there.. did you get the toothpaste that taste like beef? Or something along that line. You could try using a baby rubber toothbrush that goes on your finger along with the vet formula toothpaste... it might work... hard to say if it would be harsh enough .... Cagney is 11mths old now... he does not have any plaque forming as of yet... he does like to eat some healthy treats from the pet store ... he loves to chew the chews from the vet... that might help you dog so you won't need to brush them....
Three Dog Bakery has a toothbrush kit with special toothpaste that apparently dogs like. I haven't bought the kit yet, but was thinking about it. It has a special brush that fits over the teeth to get along both sides. Makes sense to me. You may be able to google Dog or Canine Toothbrush kit and find it on-line as well. You may not have a Three Dog Bakery near you. I found this link http://www.godoggygo.com/tartar-tamer%C3%82%E2%84%A2-dualhead-tooth... they have different types of kits for different needs look through the site. Amazon has some too.
Hope this helps.
Thanks Deanna. I'll check out the link.
Our problem was that Timbow didn't like the toothbrush. I put a little bit of peanut butter on it the first couple of times and now he could care less. :) We also buy marrow bones from the butcher or grocery store. They help keep his clean nice and white.
Thanks for the tips everyone. I have a "long" toothbrush and a "finger" toothbrush. The toothpaste is poultry flavored, and Agnes seems to like it -- she licks it off the brush, but she doesn't want me to get to the back of her mouth. I guess I'll just have to keep practicing. She loves to chew bully sticks, but I think I'll try some of the marrow bones, as well.
