Tipping a groomer

I am getting Max groomed for the first time this week. He is our first dog so I don't have any experience with groomers. Do people generally tip groomers.

I just asked this same question about a month or so ago. I had had Chewie groomed a couple times and for some odd reason, never thought to tip the groomer. I always tip where appropriate, so don't know why this never occurred to me. The popular consensis was, yes, tip the groomer. I'll see if I can find that discussion for you.

You all are so sweet, most groomers love being tipped, I am a groomer of 16 years, and a tips show that you liked the job that was preformed, and a good way to show that you will be back.

I tip to show that I appreciate the good job that my groomer has done. To me the groomer is Harlow's hairdresser; so why would I treat her any differently than my hairdresser.

I took my old dog to be groomed for YEARS before I noticed someone else tipping the groomer, while picking up her dog. I was embarrassed. Since then I have tipped her quite generously (trying to make up for 10 years of non-tipping perhaps?). She definitely deserves to be tipped and does an excellent job with Bella.

I did not think to tip for years but I always do now. I always bring cash so it does not have to go on a card or be reported if so chosen.

I have been confused on this point. I read somewhere that you do not tip a hairdresser if he/she is the owner of the business. If that is correct, then does the same rule apply to the groomer/business owner?

I tip my groomer if they do a good job and my dog comes out happy. I am a human hairdresser and get tips and I know what it takes just to bath my dog, they actually don't charge a lot so bring some cash and leave them a tip.

I tip. Years ago, I did not tip for anything but food. Either times have changed or I have gotten more saavy. My groomer's fees are really, really low compared to what I read here, so I always tip generously to keep those fees low. I try to pay both the tip and the groom charge in cash, just like I do for all service, self-employed people I use.

My groomer is also the owner, so I don't tip. I don't think I really care that the status on that has changed....they are not employees who make most of their living off of tips. They are reaping the profits of their business. I am a great restaurant tipper (especially if they keep my water glass constantly full), salon/spa tipper (if they are non-owners), and I always tip my grocery bagger/carryout person. Huh - turns out that I feel pretty strongly about not tipping owners. Glad I could have this mini-therapy session :)
