Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Well the plastic has been laid in the mini van! Our 5 mos old Labradoodle X goldendoodle seems to throw up every time he goes for a drive in the car. Anyone ever had an issue like this? We have tried doing short trips to fun locations (dog park) and they are ok. But anything over 20 mins and he is salivating and then tossing up the contents of his stomach.

Would love some ideas...

I have one doodle that never throws up, one who does it occasionally and one who does it on any trip over 2 minutes in duration.

He's still pretty young, so he may just need more short fun trips, until he gets used to it.

One idea that may help is to make sure he is facing forward. Some dogs do better facing this way. It doesn't work for mine, but other's have had success. I have a bunch of doggie throws I put down whenever my two heavers are in the car.
Hi there... when Cagney was about 4 and 5mths from time to time he would get sick like that too... the first time we picked him up we had to drive about 1 1/2 hrs to where we were going and then a good 4 hrs back home.....he threw up 4 times on the way to our first destination... at that time he was eating a lot of the wood shavings that were in his kennel... so that was a good thing to get that cleared out of his system. He ate them because he was a good size and was hungry a lot, he needed more food than what they were giving him. In any event... Cagney took a little while before he was really into going for a car ride... now he can't wait to get in the van. He loves to look out the window. We have to make rather long trips every few months so I am so glad that he can handle it now.
I would be patient it will be ok.... just keep doing what you are doing... short trips...eventually make them a little longer... as he gets older it will be ok...
We have the same thing...any trip over 20 -25 minutes and Guinness throws up. He's 10 months old now. We have a prescription from our vet for any of the longer trips. You might try searching "carsick" for the prior discussions on this. There were quite a few posts with some good suggestions.
Tori will be 2 in March and she used to throw up too, but NOW she has taken to having diarrhea! Twice it was IN the car, and now it's as soon as she gets out. She starts shaking about 5 - 10 minutes into the drive. Usually we only take her in the car when we HAVE to like to the vet or groomer. I should take her more often just for a quick ride, but it's a 'catch -22'. I don't want her to have that problem and get all messy, if she doesn't HAVE to.... now I get nervous!!! It's very frustrating!
Yankee threw up in the car as a puppy. He doesn't anymore. He still isn't crazy about driving but he made it to Florida and back with no problems. Your puppy may grow out of it.
Wrigley will be 1 next month, and she never got sick in the car until recently. Now she gets sick even on short trips. We plan on asking the vet about it today. We just hate that it makes her sick b/c she used to love to go riding with us.
Uggh..we experience this pretty frequently. Remy seems to be growing out of it, but it's still an issue. I found a good over the counter remedy at Petsmart that seems to work. It's called Pet-Ez Plus 3. It's a liquid, and he will not take it "on purpose". However, I've found a way to trick him with his favorite treat. ICE CUBES!! I put mix the correct dose with equal parts water and freeze 2 ice cubes. He's obsessed with them anyway. (He runs when he hears them coming out of the ice maker on the door!)
How Smart you ARE! Almost as smart as these doodles - lol. What is the liquid exactly? And what does it do?
