Taking my F1B for a walk

Hi all!

Lilly is 11 wks old today. I have had her out in the yard with her leash on walking back and forth. When do you guys recommend going for walks..not long walks.. like 1/2 block to 1 block..can't do much with the humidity.thanks.

I read somewhere, on DK I believe, that you should walk a puppy one minute for every week of age. So in Lilly's case it would be 11 minutes twice a day.   That is the rule I have been following, hope it is right.  That does not include play time.

I got Sadie when she was 10 weeks old and by 14 weeks we were probably walking for 30 minutes or more twice a day, which I've since heard isn't recommended (my vet didn't seem to think it a problem, however). At 17 weeks, after she'd gotten all of her vaccinations, I started taking her to the dog park every day and walking her once a day for about 45 minutes. She's six months old now and we walk for 45 minutes to an hour a day in addition to the park. She has never shown any ill effects from this regimen. I, on the other hand, developed a stress fracture in my left foot that took a month to heal.

Today I walked her for 5 minutes around the house with the leash and treats. I could have walked her without the leash since she could smell the treats and didn't leave my side.. it is so humid that is as long as I lasted. I will try again this evening.

My Piper doesn't seem to make it far on our walks. We are doing the loose leash training and she's doing great, but she seems to get hot quickly. It's been in the mid 90s here a lot and she doesnt like the heat much. She always wants to come in and sit on one of the ac vents. She also sleeps a lot! I've done a lot of research, but still feel as if I don't know enough about how to take care of her.

I think it sounds like you're doing fine. 12-week-old puppies do sleep a lot! Take advantage of it!
