Garden Group

I hope there are many gardeners among us doodle owners. After all we must be nurturers. We can share information on what's safe for dogs, how to keep them from destroying plantings and all green related things.

Oh I don't know F Parker.  It's not a rational fear...I'm just a worrier.  I don't pull weeds so I think gloveless will  be fine.

I'm with Karen. I almost never wore gloves but once in the soil I get really into the chore and my hands can take a beating. I hate the feeling of grit under my nails sometimes.
I'll admit, I loose my concentration in the yard and I tend to leave gloves laying all around. I think they are in the ground more than my hands, but still, I try to wear them
Looking forward to seeing babies and flowers, Adina

Pinworms are around but unlikely in your planters.

Hookworms are down south only I think. So what parasitic worms?

I wear gloves to keep the dirt from getting under my fingernails; they're also good when pulling weeds, because some of them are very prickly.

I meant parasitic worms...earthworms don't scare me :)

Well then I guess I'll go gloveless unless I'm gonna be treating it like bread dough and really working in there lots. It IS fun to play with dirt once I get over my 'what if there are worms, giardia, toxoplasmosis, or worse in this dirt?  :-D

RJ: Regarding turning the soil.  These are raised-way-off-the-ground flower beds that are part of the porch.  I don't think there is any connection between the dirt in the flower beds and the dirt in the soil below.  So turning it is not a big deal .. it's pretty loose.
