Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I am just wondering if any of you who have spent much time around adult Goldendoodles and Golden Retrievers could comment about the differences in their general personality traits as adults?

My 10 yr old GR passed away last week, and I love my little doodle boy to pieces but his little puppy teeth and puppy games I have to admit are sometimes not very comforting to my grieving family:( So I realize I ask this question out of grief and maybe not the best time to ask. But I know I will want another dog in the coming year, and I have a hard time picturing this wild little boy ever being the mellow cuddle bug that my GR was. I know that is probably more age difference than breed difference (Sam was 10 and Zeke is 5 months) but yet I still wonder what adult doodles are generally like after they are done with the wacky puppy years? I admit to being a noob with romantic ideas when I got my doodle puppy, having seen doodles who were so darn cute and thinking what a great idea, a Golden that doesn't shed! What I got instead was a goofy little boy that makes me laugh, makes me think, teaches me a lot about myself, and generally is the family clown (and I'm certain he is smarter than all of the GRs I have had!)

Appreciate any thoughts, comments, epiphanies & revelations:)

Well my girl has just turned one year old, and she is still bouncy, but has started to become more affectionate.
She now wants to be closer to us and searches out cuddles and pats. I feel that she is maturing into a cuddle bunny, time will tell. And in my opinion what you give is what you get back.

Hi April, I can tell you that your sweet doodle will be one of the greatest joys of your life. I picked Casper up 3 &1/2 months after my Bichon passed away & I too thought...wow, he's no Bailey (when he was nipping with those needle teeth!) But let me tell you - I love him more that I could EVER imagine! He brings our family SO much joy & love...it's like he is a 3 year old child that loves you unconditionally every minute of the day! It did take a few months for him to calm down & we did use a water bottle to squirt him when he nipped/played too rough...the kids shirts did get some holes, but I would actually clone him if I could! Hang in there, it will be well worth the wait. I am sorry you lost your Golden, I know how hard it is...hug that little doodle for comfort - I did & now I have the very BEST FRIEND I could ever imagine.
