Ok, I heard that only non-shedding doodles mat. Then I heard that doodles don't mat until they start losing their puppy coats. Then I heard that only shedding doodles lose their puppy coats!! What the heck!!!!!! I am I nutz or what. My F1 GD is 5-1/2 months old. When I brush and comb him he does lose some fur. A little. If you roll it into a ball when you are done it is the size of a 25 cent gumball. Is it still possible that he will not shed. Or unlike humans - do non-shedding doodles not shed at ALL??? When did your doodle start to lose its puppy coat?? And, if it did lose it, did it continue??? And if it didn't shed its puppy coat, did the coat not change at all?

Marlow does the same and he is 3 years old. There is hair on the brush and comb, but otherwise no shedding. He does mat some, but if you brush often, it is not too bad. I didn't have him when he was a puppy, so don't know about the puppy coat!
My F1 Gd is 9 1/2 mos old. He is curlier than when he was a pup. But I brush or comb him daily. Fortunately he likes to be combed so he doesn't get matted. He doesn't shed except when I brush him. And lots of hair does get on the comb.
I think they all will leave hair in a comb or brush - but a non shedding doodle doesn't drop hair. It will ONLY come out in a brushing or combing. That is the way I understand to be anyway. I could be wrong tho.
LOL! I know! But the answers the posters gave you sound good to me. Like people, hair in brush, but not all over everything else.
My puppy is almost 13 weeks old, and she just started shedding this week. She used to not shed at all, and now all of the sudden she really sheds! Could it be b/c of the hot weather or am I doomed to have a shedding doodle??? I spoke to the lady who owns her brother, and she said that he doesn't shed at all. I know that's not a guarantee that Wrigley won't shed, but maybe it counts as something. Any input?
I am guessing you probably have a shedding dood. But it will not shed anywhere near as much as a golden retriever. And also, you will not have to spend as much time grooming to ensure mat-free doggie. :-)
