Many rope toys can be very dangerous. If Charlie does succeed in swallowing the strings, it could be life threatening. For shaking, tossing and chewing, I'd try one of the other toys recommended here; look through the discussions for some ideas.
Jack does have a hard rope ball that he's had for 8 or 9 years that is safe, but I'm not sure this is the kind of thing your pup would like. Here's the link: http://www.doodlekisses.com/group/gooddogtoys/forum/topics/rope-ball
Try Skineez or some of the other plush toys recommended in the group discussions here.
My doodle likes to toss this. It also works for fetching. They make a tug type shape also. I don't know how that one holds up, but this one withstood our foster who is the strongest chewer I have ever seen.
Annabelle loves to shake her soft toys. There are times when we are sitting on the couch and she starts to shake her dragon so hard it hits me and really hurts. I would say that the dragon is her favorite shaking toy.
I had to train her on what she could chew and what she couldn't. Her soft toys were a no, she can only play with them but not chew them. The West Paw Hurley is one of her favorite chew toys. She isn't nearly the chewer she was her first year. There may come a day when I will feel she can be trusted on her own with her toys, but her playtime with toys is still supervised.
Have you tried the Kong Knots? Lucy and AnnaBelle love them. They fight over them all the time. The interesting part is they come in like small medium and large. They like the small ones the best even though they are big doodles. The rope is actually inside the toy. There is no stuffing, just the rope on the inside. Some of them have a squeaker and some dont. We have everyone they have made and it is always their go to toy.
