Hiking/water areas in and around richmond

Im looking for places where my two doodles can hike with me and swim/get wet. I know about bryan park and pony pasture. Any others? Willing to drive/travel to get to them.

Dutch Gap Conservation Area (next to the Citie of Henricus park) has a great trail walk. There are several places along the trail (and side trails) where you can get to the water. BUT, and this is a big BUT, these areas are used for fishing, and I'm too concerned about getting a fishing hook stuck in paws or other areas to try and do any swimming there.

Point of Rocks park in Hopewell (or Chesterfield County, whichever you prefer to call it) also has a great walking trail right along the water. It also has several places where swimming would be possible - to a small degree - but again, these areas area also used for fishing, so great care would need to be used.

The Appomattox River Park (Prince George - just past the prison) also is a great walking trail. I know they have a beautiful dock and river access, but can't remember if it could be accessed for swimming.

Just found another site that might work. Three Lakes Park and Nature Center. I had never heard of this until this morning when I saw a link to it on another website. It's just north of Richmond - in Henrico County. Address is 400 Sausiluta Drive, close to Chamberlayne Avenue.  It consists of three lakes - two can be used for fishing/wading, one is for a nature center, and has numerous walking trails. I just called them (804-262-5055) and they do allow dogs (on leashes) and they can go in the water. Since I just found out about it, I don't know any further details, but it sounds like it deserves at least a closer look. Since I have to work this weekend - humbug! - I have off on Friday so am thinking of driving up and taking a look - maybe inspect it without Wakefield first to see how it is and then take him back later if it's nice. If I go, I'll let you know how it looks.
