For months I have been feeling what I was pretty sure was a migrated microchip on the front part of Simon's chest near the front of his shoulder bone. I kept forgetting to ask the vet to check it until today when I went in to get his heartworm meds and have him weighed. Sure enough, the chip is no longer between his shoulder blades, but in the front of his chest. It feels about the size of a 1/2 grain of rice, but flat and rectangular and definitely not organic.
The chip is not Home Again (what Connor has), but through the AKC CARS program (the breeder had him chipped). AKC has offered to send a new chip to my vet's to have it implanted.
Just thought I'd pass this along just in case your doodle might have a migrated chip as well. Maybe during an annual physical would be a good time to get scanned to make sure the chip is in place.

Wow.... that was a big move. How do they get the old one out?
Me too Nancy. I have heard these stories before too and I always ask my vet to check. They always look at me like I'm a freak to worry about such a thing but clearly this happens.
I think they leave the old chip in and implant a new one in the proper place. Connor has had his Home Again chip for almost 2 years and it is exactly where it's supposed to be.
Although I wouldn't have to pay for a new microchip, my vet here will charge me to implant it. :-/ I'm thinking about having a Home Again chip done for Simon, too, in case it is the type of chip that has made in drift vs the method that was used to implant it.
