For those of you with female doods, How do you handle the heat cycle?  I am referring specifically to the drips and fluid flow.  My little girl has just started bleeding and I am curious, do I get diapers? put a liner in little kid underpants? I know they have canine diapers but I thought I'd pick your brains.  Thanks

We're expecting our Annie to have her heat cycle in the next couple of months, so I'm intersted in hearing advice on this as well.  Keep me posted on how things go Jeanne!
I'm also glad you started this discussion!   Our female is in her 5th month.   I wondering if its fairly easy to train her to wear the underpants ?   I will be curious to see everyones experiences on this .
So this is what I have tried so far.  My grandson reluctantly donated a couple of pair of underpants  and I cut a hole for the tail and put a panty liner in it.  I was a hassle to put on but Dolly was a good sport about it.  She looked silly but no getting around that.  It worked OK. not great.  Pants were getting bloody around the liner.  So today I went to Petco and had a look see.  They have 2- packs of what look like heavy duty plastic pants into which you put a liner.  I think that is what Lisa is talking about.  They also have disposable diapers that have a precut hole for the tail. They go on pretty well, tail first then wrap around and attach with  with sticky tabs. Also looks silly but Dolly has not messed with them and so far so good.  $20 for 12 so a bit pricey.  I will probably try to keep her in the same one all day (off and on, off and on ..you know the drill) and then off at night and start fresh in the morning. I may switch to the other way next time but this looked easy to me so I thought I'd try it.  By the way, Dolly turns 1 in 10 days.  So her first heat is pretty late.

Useful update.  First diaper got peed in when DH let Dolly out without taking it off.... Second diaper (slightly used) was sitting on a table, off while Dolly was outside when my other dog grabbed it and had it for breakfast.....  Maybe the plastic pants with liners route will be a better choice.....

Fun times!!

I have two girls and have gone through 3 heat cycles. I perfer the diapers that you buy and I use the panti liners. I have 4 pairs because I have forgotten and let one of them outside and they peed in the diaper.

Another thing for those of you who have more than one female like me, Mia my mini labradoodle had her first heat December (8months old) and my medium golden doodle Bella ( who was due for her heat in March) also came into heat with Mia!

Then last week Bella walked around the house crying for 2 days carrying a yellow material covered kong in her mouth. She would go behind the couch and dig as if she was trying to bury it. Then come to us wagging her tail and crying with the toy in her mouth. If Mia came anywhere near the toy she would growl at her. I called the breeder and she asked me if she was panting and I told her she was, (whenever she put down the toy) and she informed me that Bella was having a false pregnancy!  She believed that she had puppies but couldn't find them and the yellow kong represented one of her puppies. Bella has had one litter last year and after talking to the breeder I realized that when Bella was panting she was going through all the symptoms of labour!  Poor baby!  The breeder informed me that this would last about a week. Sure enough it has been about 5 days and she is doing this less and less. I wonder since it is March and the month that Bella was suppose to come into heat does this have anything to do with her false pregnancy.

Just thought I would share in case any of your dogs go through this.
